Our weary feet have carried us to Pennsylvania. I was surprised to see that the update I posted on Tuesday did not in fact go through but not much has changed. Sometimes I question the utility of our 'smartphone' because it only seems to work half of the time. Others might be quick to suggest operator error but I don't see how that could be the case. Technology failures aside, we hiked through New York and New Jersey without any serious issues. Along the way we hit a couple of fantastic delis, an apple orchard and learned that methanol does not burn well in our soda can stove.
This morning was a long hike in the rain but we crossed the Delaware River to arrive in Delaware Water Gap, Pennsylvania. The gracious folks at the Presbyterian Church of the Mountain maintain a cozy hiker hostel in the basement of the church that offers excellent protection from the rain. After enjoying hot showers, we polished off a couple of pizzas and napped the afternoon away like kings. To pass the time, Andy is working on a puzzle but I doubt that he will finish it tonight. He just complained that "puzzles are hard" so it looks like he is in for the challenge of a lifetime.
The rain continues to fall but the forecast for the next couple of days is promising. Tomorrow should be a beautiful day of hiking on the rocky hills of Pennsylvania. On Monday afternoon we are meeting up with Abby, my long lost roommate from Indianapolis. She lives just 30 minutes from the trail and it has been a long time since I lost saw her. Andy has quit the puzzle and cleaned up his mess; I didn't see that one coming.
