Once got to Krabi, got a boat to Koh Phi Phi. Had to sit on upper deck because all seating area full, so tried my best to sit in shade. Completely different to what Im usually like on holiday; usually love the sun! Maybe it's because Im aware of how long I've got to spend in the sun....or more likely because Im getting older and the sun is no good for my crow feet eyes! Boat crossing was really nice, good view of Krabi and Koh Phi Phi when finally got close. Lots of bad things I can say about TAT, but after a 16 hour/painstaking bus journey followed by a 2 hr boat, was so grateful there was someone there waiting to pick us up.
Stayed in a place called Bamboo Mountain Bungalows - does exactly what it says on the tin! Was a bungalow, made out of bamboo, set back in the mountain a bit ( although me and Deb got one of first ones...we looked so weary think the hotel man was doubtful we could make it up any steps - completely true by the way!) Decided to just chill round pool for a bit after all
Bamboo Mountain Bungalow
Ours is the first one on the end, just behind the pool. journeying and explore later. Sun was boiling hot! Put cream on but still burnt....sorry mum! Eventually turned cloudy though (thank you God), so headed out for an explore. Phi Phi very small islands and completely beautiful...never seen a beach like it. Quite small (because of size of island) and looks like a cove because 2 mountain points reach round it. Pure green sea and total white sand - doesn't get better than that for me!
Headed for some lunch and chilled for a while, then went back and got ready for evening. Feels quite busy on a night because everything small and close together - lots of bars and places to eat. We headed for a few drinks, but on our budget, can't get much - felt jealous of holiday makers getting loads of cocktail jugs, but I suppose we can't complain really! Had a few beers in few different places and a very questionnable vodka in a bar up a side street, where we had to pay 10bht for our free shot....maths has never been my strong point, but Im pretty sure that doesn't work out.
Ended up a bit tipsy anyway and watching a live boxing
match in another random bar. Never been one for boxing, but quite entertaining really! Headed home after that - one good thing about the beer...put me out like a light...thank you beer!

Up early this morning and not feeling 100%....not thank you beer! Headed for the Viewpoint - again, does what says on tin; is a point on island that has amazing view of all island. On route, realised how badly Phi Phi was affected by Tsunami in 2004, lots of signs about it and had completely forgooton. Viewpoint is now also Tsunami evacuation route. Had been told that viewpoint involved a 'bit' of walking up a 'few' steps - quite clearly the person who gave us that information had either been paid to lie or enjoyed seeing people in physical pain. Have literally never seen so many steps. 100s of steep, never ending and torturous steps. Once again...thank you beer... for making the journay all that more enjoyable! Not! After what seemed like forever and more sweat than is safe to leave one persons body finally reached 1 part of viewpoint. Collapsed on a rock, admired view and took some pics. Mental note to self:
Live Thai boxing
Can also get a free bucket of cocktails if offer to go in ring. Deb considering it in case she runs out of money! Really need to take some more exercise out here!
Joking aside, really was an amazing view. Could see all of island and how beaches curve in and meet in middle. Only now can I say it is worth the walk...at the time, swimming openly with great white sharks seemed more tempting! Stumbled up to next platform, which luckily wasn't too much further. Even better view. Quite disheartened when a small boy, maybe 4ish, skipped up giant hill past me...laughing no less! Sure kids have some kind of super fitnes...it's just not right! Contemplated tripping him up...but suppose thats just not right coming from a teacher! Ha!
So grateful when we arrived at beautiful beach and lounged in sun. Cloudy, but hot. Bought my snorkel and attempted snorkelling - not really what most people would call snorkelling though! Don't really like water, so splashed about in knee deep, green water, where there are no rocks, in giant mask, looking for anything resembling marine life. Thousands of pebbles later, gave up and waited for Deb to take me out deeper. Did manage to see some fish then, although still only went out to waist height.
Had to leave beach
Viewing platform
Platform number 1 view. You can't see me, but Im somewhere under a rock. late afternoon, skin changing to a distint reddy colour with burning sensations (did put cream on though Mum I promise). Decided to go back early, then come out early to watch sunset at a really good bar called Mojito Bar. Took quite alot of findinjg as right at edge of beach, but a good bar and a great view. We were really lucky that Australian owner was trying out some new cocktails and we agreed to be his gineau pigs at a very reasonable price. Sunset wasn't great because of clouds, but still nice to watch.
Headed in Sunshine bar then - also called Dope bar I think. Really cool mats on floor to sit on watching sea, with mini tables and candles. Got another cheap cocktail there. V.chilled and v.obvious why called dope bar.
After all that, wondered into town and got a nice meal. Went to bed earlyish feeling nice and full from meal and very sleepy.
