Homebase

What a journey! So many iconic sights on the way - past the rec, the police station, fire station, Durngate Tile Centre and, best of all the celebrated SCATS store.

Could hardly sleep last night. Trip of a lifetime imminent. Been planning this trip for so long, I feel I've been there already. Final security check on the house, into the car with a final glance at my pre-flight list and we were off across town to Homebase, that El Dorado of undiscovered Hampshire - the land that B & Q forgot.

Glaring omission
How could you have failed to include the Mildmay Veterinary Centre?

Mildmay Vetinerary Centre
Sincere apologies to all fans of the Mildmay. In justification I would offer this: just as any travelogue about Paris would perhaps seem clicheed if it gave prominence to the iconic Eiffel Tower, by the same token I wanted to avoid the predictable references to local tourist magnets, e.g. Mildmay's, the Blue Dolphin, Churchill's newsagent's, the March Hare, to name but six. This in no way diminishes the universal appeal of Mildmay's. Indeed, readers will be aware that Mildmay's was voted second in the Mid Hampshire poll to discover the most rabies free visitor destination of 2007.
