After a few days of disgustingness in Bangkok we made our way to Ko Tao. A nice island of Thailand were we spent a few day relaxing on the Beach and soaking in the sun. We found ourselves struggling to find any place that was worth the price of accommodation. We found a place that offered discounted rooms if you planned to do some diving through there agency. So we made our way there. It was nice but the rooms were nothing special. We took one day off and spent the day renting scooters and zipping around the small island to different beaches trying to find a good place to get massages and snorkel. We found both.
Snorkeling is always fun...it is even more fun when you go with a person like Jeff that is obsessed with wildlife and in pretty knowledgeable when it comes to different creatures. We made our way back home without any accidents...which seemed like a pretty big accomplishment for us seeing as how some were not doing so good on the scooters. This time around the only damage was to Megan's seat when she accidentally dropped her parked scooter on top pf another scooter while
trying to back out of here spot. The seat had a small rip and it could have been costly to replace. Thank god some small chat with the owner during the inspection was enough to distract him from taking notice.
The nights on Ko Toa were pretty mellow. A few bars on the beach had music and fire dancers that were pretty enjoyable to relax and watch. These guys were actually pretty crazy...throwing fire sticks and ball and chains on fire over the crowd all while keeping in rhythm with the music. Pretty talented.
We spent the next day diving. We had a short intro lesson in the pool to make sure we could all use our gear and then off into the ocean. It was a very enjoyable dive. We were led by a nice guy named Ivan who showed us around two different dive sites. We ran into a couple trigger fish which can cause some serious damage if they don't like you. One diver on the boat had a scar from a run in with of of them...it was about 3 inches from his eye. not good. our guide said he had been hit as
well and it feels like a good solid punch to the face. When we were underwater we saw on and we were warned to stay put...as soon as we saw two we were instructed to leave asap. We then made our way into a mouth of a small cave that housed a ray that swam out right as we approached. i wish i could of had a camera it was pretty cool to see.
Back to the shore for sunset and some more relaxing.
We then made our journey to Ko Samui where we would spend the next few days. We found a nice apartment style place where we could all room together. We spent a few days relaxing some with some more sun and sand. the beaches here are not as nice but it was still enjoyable. We made our way to a Muay Thai show that had 6 fights...3 of which ended in knock outs. The last of the 6 was the best. A tall in shape French man Vs. a Thai fighter that had no business in the ring against him. The only thing they had in common was there weight and the Frenchie was
over a foot taller. This ended in the 2nd round with a 2 kick combo to the head of the Thai fighter leaving him out cold right in front of us. Jeff and I stood and cheered as the Frenchie looked over to us and winked as if to say "no sweat guys... its over." It was incredible. A good night ended with a perfectly executed knockout.
The next day was spent in preparation of the highly anticipated Full Moon Party on the island of Ko Phan Nang. It is a gathering of a few thousand people and a few thousand buckets. We made our way over on a speed boat that we had to talk our way onto. The wait was well over 2 hours as people take numbers and sit at a bar before getting shipped off. However the girls made there way to the front and worked some magic and we got on to the boat. We all expected to pay for the shortcut to the front but in the confusion the driver couldn't sort out who was on illegally. We made it to the island and off in record time and didn't pay a penny
more....sneaky sneaky.
The party was pretty crazy...drug and people on drugs everywhere. basically it is a huge party on the beach where different bars blast different music. You like the music you stay and buy a bucket of booze, if you dont you move down the beach to the next one. Some last all night, some pass out in the sand. It can be really dangerous if you are not careful but true to form we stuck together and were ok. We were really glad that we decided to stay on another island during this party. This beach was thrashed by the end of the night. Bottles everywhere. You can only imagine the gross stuff that happens on that beach and in the water. I would never swim there if my life depended on it.
After returning at sunrise we all just laid around the next day pretty worthless. We were able to buy DVDs and watch them in our room with the air con on full blast. We had a nice big dinner with a bottle of wine to send megan off in good form. The next day we had lunch and said our goodbyes to Megan,
who had to sadly return to real life. She will be missed.
Off to Krabi!
