Well, they all had to go back home to New York City for Vivian's uncle's birthday party. Rowan got to swing on a swing and walk with grampa. Seth and Vivian had said, "Don't the leaves change every year?" Even they had to admit that they were slendid this year in Vermont. So they came to see the leaves and then they had to leave. 😞 After they left, Seth called to say that the light was perfect for pictures in the apple orchard, so we went right out to take pictures. He was so right!
There are still wildflowers blooming and it was a warm, sunny day again. We drove a different direction to see the covered bridges. Many of the older houses have cupolas on top. We wonder why? A lot of the towns around are mill towns of some kind. we saw an old paper mill by the Paper Mill covered bridge, an old lumber mill, and several woolen mills. They're not being used anymore as mills. Some of them are just totally abandoned. Some are being used for shops or other businesses.
We looked at the trees on the hillsides and wondered if Georges Seurat ever came to Vermont. Surely this is where he got the idea for pointillism. (Just kidding.) That's the only way one could paint this scenery! Locals tell us that the foliage this year is the best it has been in recent memory! Well, we have certainly been impressed! We went to see the Park-McCullogh Historic estate. It wa built in 1865 as a 35 room summer home! It has 800 acres, a carriage house that had a beautiful wood interior, and a playhouse that looked like a miniature of the big house. When we got back to the camper to do the blog, nancy couldn't find those pictures! Oh, woe!
We slept under a canopy of leaves that have changed during the week we have been here from green to yellows and oranges and reds.
