Ok now for the first real entry of the 2008 trip.

Bangkok is what it is, London in the east with more noodles and motorbikes and less McDonalds and tubes.

It's busy and hectic, stiffling hot, or air conditioned into oblivion. There is always someone in eyesight eating or drinking something, on a motorbike or chatting on a mobile phone. It doesn't take many minutes to find someone doing all three.

On arrival we wander the Khao San Road night market, pick somthing to eat and chow down. Tired from the flight we take a early night and a late get up, smoothing into the breakfast area about 2 minutes before they shut the joint.

A full day of wandering around Bangkok is in order without having to worry about being somewhere or doing anything.

Last time we came we didnt find time to do the floating market so that was on the agenda for the next morning and a 6 am start (admittedly i forgot to set the alarm and we got up at 7)

The market is not so much floating as stationary with a few boats on the side, it might be

because we got there well late but i guess in bangkok they don't need the market anymore. Hopefully we will see so more authentic versions in Laos.

Shabana's honeymoon had to start with a beach in the first week, so i picked the 2nd closest and most likely to be free from monsoon conditions, Ko Samet.

A small island that is a national park and we hoped not so touristy as Phi Phi which we hated on sight in 2004.

Our VIP bus that turned into a minivan and then ferry was a door to door experience that lasted 7 and a bit hours a few up on what the travel agent had told us.

We stayed in Vimarn Samed on Vong Deurn (sp?) a half moon shaped white sand beach which was pretty quiet. We only had 2 half days and a full day to spend so it was our traditional split of Shabana's and my time. She had a massage and i went snorkling to see what i could see. A perfect arrangement except for the fact there was overly much alive down there. I guess the massive sea urchins had eating quite a

bit of it all.

Every night was barbeque night and we enjoyed a few ribs and a whole snapper with a chilli dip on the side that according to Shabana "nearly killed"

It has been a great start, the weather was perfect in Samet, it even clouded over when we were leaving just to make us not sad to leave.

Off to Laos next to start the real travels.

See you soon
