.How come no-one is responding to the blog? Is this a conspiracy? Other drivers have stopped waving back to me. I may have to find a good therapist in Katherine.
Day Fifteen saw us leave Bitter Springs at about 9am and we made it to Katherine at 10 after a slow drive in. The Stockers vehicle, with Jacqui at the helm, was dangerously low on fuel. Rohan, pretending he didn't know this, chose to be a passenger in the Martin car. With 40km to go, we only had 35km left in the tank, and none of us were keen to walk the last 5km into town. Not happy Jan. So I slowed down to about 90km p/h and we made it into the first servo we could find. Bron's Dad would be proud of me, wiping off 40. Katherine is quite a big place and we are staying in the low level area (some may say this is appropriate) at another Big 4 caravan park. Its lovely here. The park is very quiet and we have plenty of birds, ants, geckos and possums to keep us company. We are all in love with the pool, which is massive and the
cleanest pool we've come across thus far. So yesterday we set up camp, Bron took Jack to the doctors as he has an ear infection and after lunch, and four loads of washing, we headed off to the RSL to watch the footy. We weren't able to sit in the main bar because we had the kids with us and they were not allowed in a 'gaming' area. So we had the bistro to ourselves, although had to watch the game on the small screens. It reminded us of all the grand final days at Pt Leo, trying to see the screen, whilst fighting off the glare. Needless to say, the result was a disappointment for all of us, especially Bron. Back here for another swim and then a barbie for tea. Luckily a beautiful breeze came up in the evening and we were all able to sleep. Woken this morning by some kookaburras who wouldn't get it quite right.
Hi all, Bron here. Today was UNREAL!!!!! Started off with the best bacon and eggs (thanks ro) and then we headed off to Cutta Cutta Caves. Drove past a kids motoX and thought of the Leeches. Hi you guys,
you would have loved it. Hot dusty and fun all around. Anyway, got to Cutta Cutta and unfortunately closed because of technical issues! We wonder what the technical issues are with a cave and maybe we will find out when we return tomorrow. Anyway, a quick u turn, back to camp, lunches made and we head north to Edith Falls. As we were driving, the car was telling us it was 34 outside. We certainly felt it when we got out at Nitmiluk National Park. A very short walk and we were met by an amazing waterhole with an beautiful waterfall on the other side. Dumped all our gear, grabbed noodles (we bought these in Alice and they have been a blessing) and jumped in. It was about a 200 metre paddle across to the falls. The whole waterhole was massive. What an unbeleiveble feeling. The water was not clear which was probably a good thing considering what could have been under us. Freshwater crocs could have been there but we didn't see any. How many times do you reckon the kids asked '"Are there any crocodiles here? I reckon I saw one!" Great, made me feel very comfortable, not.
We all got as close as possible to the waterfall and felt it pour over our heads, the current was quite strong and it pushed us away as quick as we got there. Paddled back for a quick lunch and a game of seated footy, Joe was in charge and did a great job. Then headed to the upper pool. The lady here at the Big 4 said it was a quick walk to the upper, 15 mins were her words. She was WRONG! Half an hour later, everyone was sweating profusely but we made it. And it was more than worth it. There were no other people there, just us. We had a Getaway moment, expecting a Daddo or Ben Dark to appear around a corner and tell us how fab this is. We experienced it all. The waterfall was much bigger than the first and the water was a lot more rocky. We had it all to ourselves for about an hour and enjoyed it all. Noodle races, attempting to be under the waterfall, floating, singing and just having a ball. The rock faces around were intense, climbing high up to the sky with beautiful green gums growing
out with their massive roots heading towards the water. There was even sand!!! Joe, Em and Ruby searched for fish in the shallows and found them but alas, nothing for dinner. Then back to the car. It was bloody hot. ( Em will tell you that bloody is just a useful adjective, not a swear word). And it was 39. Back to Katherine and another swim the Big 4 pool. Dinner at the Bistro for a Sunday roast which was delicious and music by the one and only Geoff Evans. ( Ro bought the cd for everyone for xmas).Arm Wrestling comps and Mima is officially crowned the 13-13 CHAMPION!!!! As I write this Rob, Ro and Jack are playing poker. Jacqui, Mima and Ruby counted 27 geckos outside the toilet block and we just had an owl land on a chair in our site, what a wonderful world we live in?Can't wait for tomorrow. Have i told you lately that we are having a ball????
