We got picked up at 7:15 this morning (still very tired from lack of sleep due to ongoing street party) to take a bus from Nairobi to Moshi in Tanzania to start the trek up mount kili. The bus journey was very interesting there were local people as well as other travellers. The journey was very bumpy and in parts dusty the locals were equiped to deal with the duisk unlike us and the rest for the foreigners. The journey was very long took us through the masi we didn't see any animals but a guy we met later called Steve saw two giraffes. We saw a number of masi people standing by the road and the passing bus drivers would throw water bottles and other items to them on the way. It really felt like Africa it looked just as you see it in wildlife programmes.

The next stop was a boarder crossing between kenya and Tanzania which I can only describe as very scary!! We were dropped off by the bus driver at the door of the kenyan exit border office, this was all quite simple we handed over our documents we were given a stamp and off we went. We got outside of the office were we were told we needed to go to the Tanzanian entry office. We followed the man who told us what we needed to do only to be mobbed by a group of men who grabbed our passports and tried to put Tanzanian money in them for exchange for US dollars. It all got very scary and these people croweded around us and tried to get us to open our wallets. Nick felt someone try to take money out of his pocket so we shouted at them and grabbed our passports back and headed quickly to the Tanzania boarder office. Once trough things calmed down. There were a french couple on the bus and while they tried the same thing on him a braclet was put on his wrist which he appeared not to be able to remove so he had no choice but to hand over some money!!!

We have a number of boarded crossing to deal with Next time we will be ready for them!!!

Tanzania was very different to kenya the roads were sealed which reduced the dust, we carried on towards the Mountain through a number of towns which were like nothing I had seen before. There were a number of buildings which looked like they were could fall down at any point which were peoples homes. When the buildings did fall down they built new ones next door. After some time we got to Moshi the gateway to Kili. The bus stopped in the middle of the town and as soon as it did the bus was surrounded by people trying to sell us things or offering to take us to our hotel. At this point we realised we did not know the name of our hotel after a little panic we told the bus driver our tour company and he knew were to take us. The others on the bus were going to a hotel called Keys the driver said the hotels were close by and he would drop them off first. After leaving Keys the driver took us across town towards our hotel the journey went on for a very long time and we both started to get worried as the driver said the hotels were close by. After a while he turned away from the town down a very dusty unsealed road and we were wondering where we were being taken. Finally we arrived at the hotel which was very nice and it had a pool.

Time for a good nights sleep.
