Edit Blog Post

I have been in India almost a month now. In ways it seems both longer than that and shorter than that. And I also have waited way too long to start this blog, so I am just going to jump right in to tales of my adventures without getting into the nitty gritty of getting settled and school for now.

One of the highlights to the trip so far has been our school field trip to Mysore, which happened last weekend. My five roommates (Charity, Christa, Leslie, Michael and Rachel) and I piled into a bus along with our tour guide Shafeeq and a driver. It was only a short drive to Mysore, and we stopped on the way at Tipu Sultan's Palace. There were many morals and wood carving inside but we could not take any picutres.

Once we arrived in Bangalore, we checked into our hotel. It was a nice place, much nicer than I am sure anywhere we will stay when we travel on our own. We then went to Mysore Palace, which was the highlight of the weekend. It is supposed to be one of the most beautiful in India, and it blew anything I've seen in Europe out of the water. We also could not take pictures inside. The best part was the ceiling in one of the main halls that was made of stained glass.

In Mysore we also saw St. Philomena's church, the botanical gardens, the art gallery, and Chamudi Hill, which overlooked the entire city and had an ancient temple sitting on top.

And as Mysore is famous for it's silk, it was very necessary that I also purchase a beautiful green silk sari.

Mysore was a welcome break from Bangalore, which is dirty and crowded. Mysore just had a slower pace to it and was more relaxing. It also might have helped that I had my best night of sleep during the trip so far on the plush pillows of the hotel.
