Last night was a very quiet one as the barman, from Burma, was not in the mood for party. He was not him self as the night before he was talking and laughing the whole night, tonight he is playing Bob Marley love songs, we think he may be missing his girlfriend who up and left him for Bangkok with his child of 2 months! Anyway, we were pretty tired as well.
That night, as sure as the sun rises in the morning, our dog was sleeping outside our room keeping watch. The morning started like every other morning since we got to Royal Orchid Resort, wind and clouds. So we decided to hire a motor bike to go see the island. Not a bad move, as it was worth the money, $4 for the day! Result!
We decided I, Chris, would drive, lucky me! I hate motorbikes and the people here drive like idiots, almost like cage free for all fighting, there are no rules. Well none they stick by!
Our first stop were a few beaches, same same, nothing to great, as the tide was low. We then head of to Phaeng Yai Waterfall. We got to the gates
of the park, very impressive, well by their standards. We were expecting to be blown away by natures magical creation! Not so, one would think with all the rain we had in the evenings it would be a amazing sight! A few drops here and there. Not much to wright home about other than a pleasant walk in the jungle to get there.
We then made our way to Khao Nui Wat Madurwan, The Marble Buddha. The Marble Buddha was perched on top of a hill, with a steep climb up the stairs. On top were the Marble Buddha and a temple surrounding it. Next was the journey back down! We then made our way to the North of the island to see the famous beach, Hat Rin, this is where the Full Moon Party takes place. Nice beach with soft white sand and in season, I can just imagine, thousands of party animals and the place trashed! The road there was pretty scary, super steep roads that wind their way up and down the cliff face. Poor Linda had to get of a number of times because the motor bike just couldn't make it. Naturally I rode the bike
to the top and waited! Along the way we spotted a car parked on the side, made of wood! Yip, wood. No rust problem here!
We stopped of for lunch on the way back to the main road, it was half way up a steep hill. The restaurant was not the best but had an amazing view of Kho Samui and pretty expensive for what it was.
We then head off to a few other places but after driving a couple of kilometers and the road getting more and more overgrown with no sign of traffic passing in a while, we decided to head back, also the weather looked like a storm was on the way.
On the way back we passed a elephant camp. So we stopped to take photo's. We ended up feeding them bananas. What amazing creatures, so placid and gentle.I could have fed them all day. We decided to wait on the elephant ride, rather do it in Cambodia. So we up and left.
We spotted another temple on the way home, so we had to stop! Linda got her sarong out so she could cover her shoulders and in we went. It was a Buddist
temple and we met a Buddist called Toy, pretty easy name to remember! Anyway, we thought he worked there as he was showing us where to look and where the story of Buddha was in english. So we walked around and read a picture story with some words on how Buddha came to be. Very interesting. When we came out, Toy was still there looking at a group of people, what looked to be doing some team building. They were blind folded and had to climb through about 6 or so car tyres. We then got chatting to Toy again. He was explaining to us the beliefs of being Buddist and so on. We I then gave him my name and he was all to happy, he said, same like Chris Christopherson! Toy said he used to watch a lot of movies but not anymore. And as it turned out, he was at this place to meditate. One funny thing was he asked where I was from, so I said South Africa. He wanted to know about our president, Madiba, was he black skin? To funny, so I said yes and that he is no longer our president, Madiba is
now maxing and relaxing.
Ah well, nice to meet different people, people who can teach you other ways of life. Very interesting.
Now we are back on the porch, Linda has the hammock and I the chair as our dog is no where to be seen?
Tomorrow we head for Hat Bo Pht, Kho Samui, it's another island about 1 hour boat ride from here. Lucky the boat takes us straight to where we want to go, so no bumpy taxi rides to where we are going.

Your trip looks to be amazing!!! There is only one thing... Takko is getting frustrated that you give much more love to this little dog than to him ;-)) We miss both of you, lots of fun on the rest of your trip. Take care, Gaby, Tim and Takko
