Some of my favourite quotes by Americans I overheard during our Italy holiday....
(these, although hard to believe, were said seriously)

Male, approx 25yrs old;
(about drinking taps throughout Italy running constantly)
In America man, I only drink bottled water, I won't drink it out of the tap. It is drinkable i just dont do it. But, like here man, the taps on the street run all the time. I feel like I have to drink tap water. I wonder if they recycle that water, but that would be gross because people wash their feet in it and stuff."
Friend, "I'm sure they filter it or something"
Male, "You reckon? I dont know what they do man."

Male, approx 25yrs old;
"Dude, I learnt about water the other day. Apparently it's a valuable resource, and like, the majority of the worlds water is sea water so its undrinkable. And one day, man, it will be more valuable than oil because people need water you know."

Daughter, approx 14yrs old;
-arriving at the foot of the Colosseum at 9:30pm-
"Is that the Vatican City?"
Mother, approx 40yrs old;
"Yes it is. I've been trying to get us in there. I hope it's not closed"

?????????????? disgraceful.
Needless to say we followed/stalked this last two for about half an hour eavsdropping for some more pearlers like this one, but we couldnt quite catch anything else.

Yes Americans are dumb, well most of them. But also some Australians. I think back to some of the people I know who have travelled over the world and shudder to think of the impression they give of Australians overseas... Oh well I guess everyone in some countries think that aussies are self-obsessed tightasses with infatuations for portia de rossi...hrmm. Thats awesome how you guys are in Italy, Im jealous. I'm stuck in drama town, its like the Geelong of Asia.
