Bona Sera!

I'm sorry I haven't posted sooner. I know in my last post, I said that I would be writing again the next day. Now, it is quite a few days later, and I'm finally writing this post. The only thing I can say is that I am now on Italian time which is much slower than American time. That, and I've been trying to get the whole photo thing figured out.

So, in the past week and a half, I've been introduced to a lot. In my past post, I didn't really get the opportunity to discuss my feelings about the things I've done or experienced. So, I guess this is the 'Katie's philosophy on Italy thus far' post. Italy is certainly an adjustment. Italians approach life very differently than Americans do. In America, there's always responsibility that seems to be motivating us in just about everything we do. I need to write this paper because I'm responsible for the grade in the class. I have to go to this meeting because I have a responsibility to whatever people or organization. I have to eat dinner because I have a responsibility to take care of my body. In Italy, it seems that people do things because they want to. They take two hours to eat dinner because they can and because they want to. They cook a 3 course meal because they want to have more than one thing on their plate. They close their stores in the middle of the day because they want to take a nap. The main responsibility Italians care about is their responsibility to their happiness. Ideally, this approach to life seems a lot more positive, but it is still a change- especially for me who is queen of 'I have to be here to do this for this person.'

Alright, so that's the philosophy rant. The main reason I'm posting is because I have pictures!!! Travelblog wasn't really working on the photo end of things. So, I got an account at photobucket. I only have one album thus far, but there are two more coming. This is an album of my first exploration of Rome. For a teaser- the highlight: THE PANTHEON! P.S. We weren't even looking for the Pantheon. We were just walking around and stumbled on it. Another funny thing about Rome is how you can just be walking, and stumble on a major piece of history.

Hopefully tomorrow or Thursday morning, I can at least get my pictures of Verona and Sermione up. Coming up: This weekend, we're going to Ischia an island off the coast of Naples. It's next to Capri, and very similar and much cheaper. Catherine Zeta Jones can go to Capri. I'll go to Ischia. Today, I also signed up to travel to Greece for fall break, and Pompeii on Halloween. And, I think Oktoberfest plans are approaching the verge of being finalized, and maybe that's wishful thinking. But, I'm prepped to travel! Hope all is well back in the states!

Ciao,
Katie

Sounds like you're having a great trip!
I just got caught up on your posts and it sounds like you're having an amazing time! You're seeing so many historic places in such a short time... fabulous! I have never been to Assisi but would love to one day. And about those manpris... I know what you mean! You know how they say that fashion starts in Europe before it gets to the States? Well when Tim and I were in Paris three years ago, every other man we saw was sporting either sunshine yellow pants or some kind of bright red. I mean, what's with the preschool color palette? I joked that Tim better get used to it because that was going to be all the latest around Arcadia some time soon. Thank God it never made it across the Atlantic!! I wish I knew more Italian to be able to e-dialogue with you but the only things I know are how to say "kiss my a$!" and something that I am surely going to spell wrong but kinda sounds like this: 'Que camine con la note, camine con la morte.' Loosely translated, it means "He who walks at night walks with death". My Italian father used to tell me that before I went out with my friends at night in high school. Lovely thoughts, eh? On that note, enjoy your trip!!!!! Aline
