It took two days and over 14 hours of driving in a small cramped 4X4 - that we nicknamed Minnie Mouse - but we finally arrived at the first interesting stop of our trip - Chobe. Chobe is known for it's huge herds of elephants and it did not dissapoint. We all jumped in to the open Safari and headed into the park all with cameras at the ready.

"Oh look... there's a mongoose and impala... is that an elephant in the distance??"

We then turned the corner and before us was a huge lake with elephant herds alll over the place. There must have been over 300 elephants. Some eating, some bathing, some playing. Needless to say it was amazing. I took lots of pics and have started taking videos as well to try and share with you how fantastic it was. Elephants trupeting, hippos laughing in the background, beautiful colorful birds flying overhead. At one point we watched a baby elephant charge a baboon. The babooon just looked at the baby who got scared and ran back to it's group. One of the elephants broke off from the group and came charging and trumpeting at the baboon. There was a standoff for a couple of minutes and then the baboon moved away. It was fascinating... like being in the middle of the discovery channel.

The other amazing thing in Africa is driving down the road and seeing Giraffes, Warthogs, Zebra, Impala and Elephants. It's a little surreal.

Needless to say I'm having a fantastic time! The weather has been amazing and I am getting used to the camping... THANK YOU Jenn and Matt for the mattress... I don't think I would have survived without it!

She's back!
Good to hear from you. I was starting to fear you had been eaten by a tiger or gorilla or orca or something...

Excellent!
Great pix and glad that you're having the adventure you were hoping for. Unbelievable that you saw that many elephants in one place! Better than African Lion Safari here eh? Good to hear the mattress came in handy! Worth carrying!!!
