We went on a hike around the waterfall in the black forest.
I hope this blog entry finds everyone doing well and enjoying the end of summer. I recently spend a weekend in two cities in the Black Forest. The Black Forest in Germany is called Schwarzwald, which translates out literally to Black Forest. On Saturday I went with a group of about 10 people from my program and went to the town of Triberg. This is a relatively small town and is pretty touristy. The town also has the highest waterfall in Germany. That was our first stop in Triberg and it was a very pretty hike up around the waterfall. We also thought it would be fun to visit the Schwarzwald museum. It was very interesting but also very creepy since the museum has tons of wax figures all of which looked like they were melting a little. They had tons of cuckoo clock shops and gift stores. It was interesting to be in such a touristy spot and to hear so many Americans walking around.
On Sunday I went with a group of about 6 other people to the town of Freiburg. This town is much larger than Triberg and is more of a University town then a tourist attraction. It was a very beautiful town to walk around and had a great church in the center. We walked up a mountain to get a great view of the city. By the end of my year in Germany I am going to have the strongest calves from walking up these hiking trains with crazy inclines. It was well worth the effort once you get to the top. In Freiburg there was an observation tower you could go up on top of the mountain. It was amazing but really creepy since being the far up the structure was swaying in the wind. Traveling on a Sunday is always interesting because everything except for restaurants is closed. So when we travel on Sundays we pretty much look at the amazing sites and eat. Never a very bad day!
I was a really packed weekend but it is amazing to think of all I can see by just jumping on a train that cost like 20 Euros. The language school is going good and we are starting to all realize how different the German culture can really be. I have been taking to my Host old lady and it helps a ton. She

really likes to make tee on Sunday and we eat bread and drink tea while discussing our weekend. I can’t believe it has already been a month since I have been here but I am amazed at all the things that I have seen. It is still crazy to think that I have 11 months left in Germany but it is exciting to think about all the other places I can travel and other things I still have left to experience.
