Sabadee!!!
I have so many languages floating around in my head now that I had to seriously concentrate to find the word for hello in Lao!

So made it to yet another country to Laos the land of smiles. The border crossing went smooth, it's so laid back here that when we arrived at the immagration post (a shed marked with spray paint reading 'Customs' I thought we were going to need to wake the customs guard up to stamp us in the country!! lucky he woke and ran over to process us. We're planning to spend 4 weeks here before crossing back into Thailand.

Nic - We decided the best way to get into the Laos way of life, was to jump in at the deep end........What does that entail you're wondering???.....Well:
1) A Small Island in the middle of the Mekong river,
2) A Bamboo hut on the Western (sunset) side of the island,
3) A couple of hammocks,
4) A couple of good books (Yes Dan reads now!)
5) And most importantly, a few big ice cold bottles of Beer Lao!

Dan - Just to give you a quick lesson on Laos..........Sandwiched between Thailand, Cambodia & Vietnam the country is one of the most undeveloped countries in Asia with roughly 80% of the land still covered in Jungle much of it still unexplored, this is mainly due to the amount of unexploded bombs littered everywhere left by the Americans during the Vietnam war. Getting off the bus to take a wee can have disastrous consequences!!, Tiger, Elephant, Gibbons, Cloud Leopards still live here so hopefully going to glimpse some of these!.......

Nic - So we've finally dropped down a gear or two, and are wondering why we've not slowed down before now! (....Possibly because we hadn't found anywhere quite so relaxing, but that's not the point!) We spent a good 3 days gently rocking the time away and taking the odd stroll into the simple little villages that surrounded us. We also found a nice waterfall - or rapids would be a better description, of where the mighty Mekong drops over several ledges, quite a sight, especially as it's the middle of rainy season! Unfortunately there isn't really much more to tell!

Wow, it's really strange. Literally 2 minutes before your blog came through I was having a conversation with a guy at work about the country of Laos. He was telling me about the history and also poverty. I'ts the 13th poorest country in the world if you didn't know and it is also illegal to beg which may also be why this country is even more relaxing to you guys. Just a bit of extra info for ya!! It may be that this country did not just come up in our conversation just by 'coincidence', I think that I felt your Laos vibes travelling through the world wide web! Looking good guys!!
