Hello all

We wanted remote Cambodia...........and guess what? we got it....!!

In total we bussed for about 15 hours all the way across Cambodia from Siem Reap to Ban Lung, good journey but the last 3 hours or so were the bumpiest yet due to the area being so remote and no proper roads have been built in this neck of the woods.

So where do I start? ok well our first day here we spend at Yeak Laom lake which is a natural volcanic crater filled with the most clean turquoise water we've ever seen.! We joined in with the local kids jumping off the jetty and railings down into the lake, some of the little bleeders were jumping out of a tree at least 20 meters high! crazy...........As I started to climb the tree for my own plunge I heard "Dan get down now, don't you even think about it, don't you know how far the nearest hospital is???".......Then my common sense kicked in and I realised she was right.......it was high one slip and I would of had it.

We got talking with a couple of Slavenian blokes..very funny and very CRAZY! they got the beers and introduced us to the local rice wine jars so we spent the rest of the day floating around getting drunk.! NOT THAT WE ADVOCATE DRINKING & SWIMMING AS IT IS VERY SILLY.!!

Nic - Lunch time was quite eventful....we ordered eggs and rice, but these were no ordinary eggs.........As described on one menu we've seen, they were "Pregnant Eggs" Yep you guessed it (or maybe not as it's quite bazarre to us...) they were fully formed duck embryo's - feathers, intestines and all!...It'sa quite a delicacy here!

The following two days were spent trekking in the jungle, sticking closely to the subtle routes used by the minority villagers so as to avoid their traps set for wild pigs, monkies etc! It was a fantastic two days, really peaceful with just us and our guide Yok who was from one of the minority villages up here. He taught us loads about how they survive and eat in the jungle.

We set up our hammocks and shelter next to a lovely river with tarzan vines to swing into the plungepool. We had just finished our dinner (including the bamboo shoots we'd foredged!) before a tremendous storm set in...the perfect way to end the day and a relaxing lullaby to send us to sleep!

Dan - The jungle is so thick and lush at the minute as it's wet season that on the way back on day two we got slightly lost and stumbled across a Minority villagers party where they were all guzzling rice wine....We got dragged in and forced (in a nice way) to drink with them their extra strength brew.!! Priceless moment.! oh they had also just sacrificed a pig to the spirits to ensure a bumper crop of rice. We asked Yok how long the party would go on for and he replied "They'll keep drinking till they fall asleep, wake up and drink some more until all the booze has gone!"

Apart from a few nice walks around the region not much else to report, Were off to Laos next crossing overland again.

Southern Laos is still really remote so might be a while until you hear from us again.

See Ya
