As most of you probably know, I am going on my European trip very soon. I actually leave home on Sunday afternoon, and come back a whole eight weeks (and a bit) later. I've cancelled the paper, set the video to record all my shows (very important), and started to think about packing my bag.

For those out there who aren't in the loop on my itinerary, I'll give a quick rundown. On Monday I fly to Hong Kong where I stay for two nights. Then on to Dublin, Madrid, Barcelona, Avignon, Paris, Brugge, Amsterdam, Berlin, Dresden, Munich, Lucerne, Interlaken, Florence, and finally Rome. Hopefully, if all goes to plan, I'll be back in Brisbane on the 21st October and then back in Townsville that same night.

There are a few things I need to get, one of which is a phrase book. People have told me that if you make a small effort with the local language, the locals may speak some English in return. I figure a few gracios, merci's, bitte's and other things whouldn't be too difficult. Okay, maybe I should start practicing now.

I'll be taking the train to most places, which is a good way to see the countryside. Not sure how often I will write something here, but at least once a week would be nice. Also, I'll try and put some photos on here, the first of which is of my precious backpack. Bye for now.

Hi Nick I am guessing that the phrasebook is not required yet...unless the accent in Dublin is very broad! Might be nice to have you tell us some common but weird language phrases of the English-speaking areas (you know, like when a pie is called something completely weird and different). Anyways, hope you are not too jetlagged at this stage, and enjoying the trip. Vanessa
