Opening Ceremony
The Parade of Nations After all the preparation and organizion, it's hard to believe that it's actually happening. Tomorrow morning I leave for Ireland and officially begin my one year journey around the world. As of right now, my plan is to spend at least a month in Ireland, then travel down through Europe ending in Greece. Come November, I'll hop on a plane and fly to Dubai where I'll stay with a friend for a few weeks, then continue onto New Zealand. Currently I only have my one way ticket to Ireland, so my plans are pretty flexible!
Over the past week I practiced being a foreignor (well, sort of...) up in Vancouver BC where I watched my sisters co-ed team represent the USA in the Ultimate Frisbee World Championships (they got the bronze!) Most definitely the coolest tournament or event I've ever been to. Basically just like the olympics but even better cause it was for Ultimate Frisbee!! It was wonderful being surrounded by over 20 nationalities all week long. I just couldn't get enough of all the accents! In preparation for my coming trip, I practiced being extremely cheap by sleeping on the fields one night with a fellow Western Ultimate player. It took us a few moments to gather enough courage to walk onto the field directly across the street from the police department with big bulky sleeping bags in hand. Luckily enough, we slept a peaceful night and woke to the rising sun. There's not much better than a free nights accomodation!! Overall, the tournament was a blast and it was the perfect beginning to my journey.
And speaking of my journey, I should head to bed so I can actually wake up and begin it. I'll write next when I'm actually IN Ireland!!! Yippeeee!
Cheers!
