Hout Bay
On the way to Duiker Island I went on the Cape Point Peninsula tour today. What an amazing day, the weather ended up being beautiful and met some really nice people on the tour.
The tour consisted of a drive down the peninsula from Cape Town to Cape Point where the Indian and Atlantic oceans meet. Very scenic, convaluted drive. We stopped in Hout Bay where we got on a boat to Duiker Island - a seal colony. I'm not sure what impressed me more - the seals or the 7 meter swells our boat ended up surfing!!
The next stop was to Simon's Town to watch the African penguins run around. Simon's Town is quite a beautiful place, lots of big beautiful houses on the beach. Just recently, (in the past 10 years I think) penguins started roosting on the beach - began with 2 now there are almost 200 mating pairs - and the tourism there is now booming. I'm sure the locals aren't that excited about the bus loads of tourists who invade their little piece of heaven every day!
We then headed down to the Cape Point National park. From there we jumped on some bicycles and had the best
Duiker Island
The seals enjoying the high seas bike ride of my life. You know it's unique when an Ostrich runs out in front of you!!! Beautiful views and turbulent sea everywhere.
All in all a wonderful day! I'm off to the V&A waterfront tonight to hopefully find a restaurant that serves game meat. Oryx anyone??

Cape of Good Hope
Wow! I can remember my Dad telling me when I was young that his uncle was a soldier (or a sailor) on the first boat that sailed around the Cape of Good Hope in the Boer War (1900) and was granted land in South Africa by Queen Victoria. The document was in the Baker family at one time but I'm sure it has been lost since then.
