Day 2

After an uncomfortable and boring night in Gairlochy campsite, I got up early(7am) and had my breakfast and packed my stuff away. My plan was to get to Fort Augustus by late afternoon(24miles). The next village to stay was South Laggan, which was only 8 miles away. It was too close to make it worthwhile staying as it would only take 2 hours to walk there and I would have to spend the entire day hanging around in my one man tent.
After South Laggan the only other option apart from wild camping was Fort Augustus, so onwards I went.
This days walk was a big improvemnet on the first one. The first part to South Laggan was over an old military road. Very straight and not that high so I was able to walk at a very steady pace. Got to South Laggan by 10.30am and stopped at the local resturant at some wodden cottages.
Headed onwards from there, mostly next to the canal, but on far more interesting forest trails and even crossed the A82 road to Inverness at one point. Part of the route was also an old disused railway line between Fort William and

Inverness. The line was made in the early 1900's, but was never finished due to the company making it going bankrupt. Thats why to this day, trains going to Fort William and Inverness from Glasgow always split up at Tarbet.
Late on in the day I was bypassed by about 20 cyclists, all with small trailers attached to there bikes. Kept catching up to them for about 30mins though due to a series of gates that I had to cross on the path. This obviously was difficult for them to naviagte quickily, but easier from any walkers.
The walk into Fort Augutus was very pleasant and the weather again was very warm. The loch gates at Fort Augutus is the end point of this segment of the GGW, but again I had another 2 miles to get to the campsite at the end of the town.
That night the manky mob were playing in the UEFA Cup final. I went to a pub next to the campsite to watch a bit of the game. Was bored mindless. I even had to listen to the local Rangers fans ask who was playing for their own team. Realised that everywhere must have its football glory hunters. Went back to my tent at half time. Couldnt watch anymore.
Well done Zenit St. Petersburg by the way
