The good, the bad and the trulli wonderful!

Trulli

Now down on the heel of the boot in Italy. We have been in a region called Apuglia which is famous for these great conical shaped houses. The town of Alberabello is WH listed and has streets of them. We managed to find a trulli to stay in on the outskirts and it was great. The owners were very kind and took Roger and myself on a small tour of his property. We had to communicate in French which was a times challenging but we managed.

It turned out the owner was an opthamologist whose family had owned the property for years. He now enjoyed running a small vineyard; selling the meat which had been raised on the farm via his basement cool rooom as well as having a chap come in and make cheese in his basement. It was really terrific and I am sure Roger is keen to turn Kallaroo Rd into a B & B with some vines and cattle.

We left our trulli this morning for a 2 hour or so drive to Lecce further south. We stopped off at a few more hilltop villages and then spent several hours trying to find some interesting

accommmodation. Not content with just anything we ended up at 7 pm thinking that we might have to sleep in the car. What had been a great start to the day was looking fairly grim. At last we found a swanky hotel with last minute rooms for a good price. Luxurious really! We then headed into town to find the old Roman amphitheatre had a modern ballet troupe from Tuscany performing for 3 Euro. A quick dinner; grabbed cushions from the usher and found our stone seats! Fabulous!
