It was Jackys influence that made us visit Napier, but I have to admit that when I heard about the wine tours I was swayed myself (obviously for the wine knowledge I would gain!). Napier is a city but appears more like a small town from the 1930's. Having suffered a major earthquake followed by severe sweeping fires the place was replanned and rebuilt by 4 archetects with an interest in Art Deco. It was designed so well and so in keeping with each other and although it went through a period of degradation today due to the tourism industry getting behind it they have festivals, "tea & cake" type day on the lawn, antique car rallys & generally any opportunity to live it up 1930's style'. Jacky was in her element and seemed to have discovered the use of my camera at this point! Went on a wonderful tour and learnt a bit more and finished the morning feeling 'rather spiffing'.

The afternoon however was down to me as we set out on our organised wine tour afternoon. We stopped at 4 wineries from a very small carbon neutral site to a much larger scale operation. The advice was plentiful, as was the wine (and not in small portions). Failing to follow the advice on spitting the wine after tasting we ended up chatting with a bunch of kiwi kiwi farmers (yes locals who owned kiwi farms) on the tour and continuing drinking until late on in the day! all very good fun but it did hurt in the morning, so slowly we left Napier for a spot of none drinking activities.
