Krabi
The land of crabs hello people! first of all thanks for the messages tis really good to hear from back home (yes tim writers block had struck so this one is for you!) and secondly we put some more mug shots onto the gallery today so have a look if you want to see our beautiful faces and admire my golden tan.
last blog was from marc i think when we were up in pai. so to continue the story......after two nights enjoying the mellow music and beer filled mountain air we headed back on the long and windy road in a rickety thai bus back to chang mai. meeting up with geoff our aussie travelling bud from before we feasted upon an all you can eat buffet of the best food so far in thailand before boarding yet another train to take us back to bangkok. a fairly comfortable almost sleep filled night. In abngkok we had the pleasure of meeting up with marc's friend graham who encouraged, well forced us to spend the day drinking on the ko san, a heady mixture of beer bacardi breezers and the local version of red bull.....rocket fuel! A great night (we think) and much fun for
Krabi
and of strange fruit me watching marc fall off the bed three times in five minutes...he wasnt drunk though.....honest!
both feeling rather delicate the day after we had a relaxed day (when are they not!) and visited yet another wot (temple) this one was on a hill though qualifying it as one of the best.
Smugly ignoring stories of rain down south and thinking of all you lot back home in the cold we made the jouney down south to the tropical sun filled beaches, thinking of kayaking and hiking with the warm sun on our backs and drinking cold beers in the tropical heat.hmmm. Realsing we should actually start thinking about budgeting we decided to get the fan sitting night train rather than splasing out on the bed a/c compartement, saving a grand total of about 3 squid. yup we'll never do that again......seems thats the class mosquitos always favour and the night was spent in a variety of contortionist positions trying to sleep in cramped broken seats and not be eaten alive. all for three pounds! So we arrived in krabi feeling pretty jaded. krabis best feature is the mad little crabs that live on the beach and spend all day fighting with their one massively oversized claw. and thats about all there is. So the next day we caught a long tail boat over to railey. Huge limestone cliffs towered over us as we were forced to check into the most luxurious accomodation so far with windows and an ensuite (using up that saved three pounds and a fair bit more....budget schmudget!). we dined on fish caught fresh from the sea and had the first of the big rain showers which were to become common place over the next few days. aboo. Swimmming in a warm sea with rain pelting down was a pretty cool experience though. The night ended with marc giving me another guitar lesson, can do all of five chords now!
Tiring of the luxury we had decided to move on and seek out new places. with a couple of hours to burn however we decided to trek over the hills....sorry trecherous mountains...into the dense jungle. feeling very much the intrepid explorers we climbed and climbed and slipped and slid until we stumbled over the small bay of Ton Sai and immediately realised this was the kind of place we wanted to stay. another hard and long journey (at least 25 mintues each way, hardcore stuff) we brougth our bays round and settled into a very rickety hut in the andaman resort where we spent the last two days watching the climbers and feeling distinctly unfit and lazy drinking our beers! unfortunately the rain followed us round, and so did the mosquitos sending our karmas plumetting as we killed more and more of the little b*st*rds.
Feeling that it was about time we did some activeties we hired kayaks for the afternoon with a new aussie mate, rod. Marc sailed solo, me and rod had a double kayak (by far the easy option, all praise to marc for some heroic paddling) and we explored some 'nearby' islands. four hours later feeling really really tired we arrived home for our last evening. my fair and delicate english skin got a bit of a pasting from the overcast sky though so a quite evening of recovering was needed before we travelled back to the main land today, where its also raining, hooray! Plans are to move on to ko lanta tomorrow and continue the marc and claire adventures.
Phew! well thats us up to date, i take no responsibility for any spelling mistakes and blame them all on the computer. as you all know my speeling is perfeckt. anyway take care everyone and we'll keep you informed! claire xxxx
