10th July 2008
Bob and I had our last viewing of Eddie swooping down for his food before breakfast with earth coming out from under the house for the extension. We had to catch the ferry at 10.00 from Duke Point to Tsawwassen on the mainland so we packed up and had a last look round before leaving for the ferry. It is sad to be leaving Vancouver Island where there is so much to do and see and we have been made so welcome. Sue and I have exchanged memories of our childhood holidays together and caught up with all the family news and after leaving a gap of 30 or so years promised not to leave it so long before meeting up again. I don't think it will be long before other members of our family beat a path to their door to enjoy this lovely place.
We watched the ferry Costal Inspirations sail into the dock and were surprised to see the brand new ship as we had thouht we would be on the old boat. It was a very smooth crossing in bright sunshine and the ferry soon made up the time it had lost earlier in the day and we docked at 12.30. We took a taxi to the airport to pick up a hire car for the next leg of the journey.
We had to wait for Amy and Rich to join us after they had explored Vancouver.
Against Richards better judgement they had spent three hours rollerblading round Stanley Park. Although it was their first time on rollerblades Amy decided they needed to do a 10km route. Richard has admitted that he did take his blades off to avoid the traffic when crossing the road. Apparently every stick stone and railing jumped out at Richard and he still has the bruises to prove it. To relax after that Amy hired bikes to do a 15km bike ride.
After some difficulty finding a room for the night and after a bit of research we managed to book four rooms at the University of Kelona which was on the the route to Banff. This was the suggestion of the car hire man who was very helpful and lent us his Sat Nav to find places.
After a stop at the Keg Resturant in Kelowna we eventually found our way to the University and found our rooms.
It was a bit strange for us to be in a University Halls of residence but as there was also 500 baseball lads staying at the same time, we had plenty of company.
