Giving a little love to Elvis!
Chris touching the spot where Elvis had his first recording session at Sun Studios. Bob Dylan kissed the spot too but... It was so good to see some messages from all of you!!! We had a change in plans since leaving Branson, MO. Chris had an epiphany on Sunday morning (so he says😊 and mentioned that he thought that the Kansas City Royals were playing a home game that day...hmmm. I think that he might be going through some baseball/sports withdrawal while being on this trip. Sports radio doesn't seem to cut it. I checked on-line and sure enough the Royals were playing the Mariners at Kaufmann Field at 1:10. PERFECT!! We undid the RV and hit the road. We made it for 1pm and even had a nice man not take advantage of us by giving us a coupon that saved us $40.00. I guess our good karma has returned. We bought fantastic seats behind the first base dugout for 32 dollars each. All of you Fenway fans know that this is not possible at home. The fans here are very different than Boston. They start leaving at random times. They don't use cell phones, there was no cursing and no beer was dumped on us. Though all of these things sound good (minus leaving early) there is not the crazy
Are they Royals fans?
They have not converted to Royals fans. I actually wore my red sox hat and shirt...people were kind. fanatical fan base either. It was great to see a different ball field, different energy and a different experience. We left the ballfield and hopped on the interstate immediately to get to Kansas.
Last night we stopped at the Owl's Nest Campground (27 sites) in Junction City, KS. I tried to pay but the automated machine seemed to have issues with me...I had entered my information, provided my fingerprint and stood there waiting for the machine to take my picture. Five seconds turned into a minute, minute and half, etc. I did notice that only half of my face showed up on the potential photo. I called the help line got a message machine and gave up. Chris tried this morning before we hit the road and sure enough it took all of his information. I think that I was discriminated on height and Chris thought maybe it was gender. I guess we will never know. Temperature and weather conditions were great in Junction City. In fact it was cool and refreshing. This morning people were awake at the crack of dawn...I think it was the train whistle that kept being sounded, so we decided to hit the road
Teachers Rule!!
Look at this love!! early and get to Dodge City. We got of the major interstate (70) about an hour into the trip and discovered what Kansas was all about. Farms, small towns, grain storage facilities and wind turbines. Chris and I actually enjoyed the driving and looking around. It was neat to be able to see the next town (10 miles away) as soon as you exited a town. We did stop at some historical markers along the way. Mitch, Chris wanted me to let you know that the first marker we saw was for the first farm that established Federal Farm Credit which of course led to a thorough discussion or lecture on the plight of the American farmer. I felt like I was back in history class😊 We arrived in Dodge City around 12:30, plenty of time to visit the sites. We checked in at the Gunsmoke Campground, saw a lizard (you can imagine the excitement), had lunch and headed to Boot Hill Museum where we had another history lesson about trade, trails, railroads, cowboys, etc. They have a nice little museum, not great but OK. We did have our picture taken at one of those old photo shops and the boys chose the saloon. Lucky me! The look on their faces when I came out of the dressing room was priceless and Devin and Nick both thought I should be a boa for the trip. Yikes! The pictures are pretty good...After the museum we walked around for an hours and discovered that there was nothing else to see (Su you were right, we thought two nights would have been good...I don't think so). We then headed for an early steak dinner which was fantastic. The boys are now swimming and we are catching a breather...it was 95 degrees today but there was a great breeze. We did not spot Dorothy or Toto....and the ruby slippers?
Su--I hope you all continue to have a great time and that Mintz and Melissa have got their luggage back. Have a drink for us!!!
All of our teacher friends I hope you enjoy the Kansas Teachers' photo....a little appreciation can go a long ways.
Tomorrow we will be off to Colorado😊

teachers DO rule!
Hey there guys! Just got back from our trip out west and I thought of you...we made it to Yosemite for the first time and saw LOTS of "1800RV4Rent"s driving by us. Is that on your list of stops? We hiked up to Vernal Falls. For non-hikers like us, it was reasonably difficult, but well worth it. The views are like nothing I've ever seen and you literally climb right alongside the waterfall. Pretty amazing stuff. Just don't curse me along the way if you feel a little like you are going to pass out from the hundreds of steps you have to climb. It's worth it, I promise. Hope all is still going well! I'm enjoying the "funny moments" especially!
