Tuesdy the 8th
Oscar wantetd to bring me to an irish bar. I said i wanted to see the real peru but one beer in the irish bar couldnt hurt. So we went to the Irish bar. It turned out to be an English bar. I pointed out that Ireland and England were not the same thing. Came as quite a shock to him. Anyways we decided to go find a real irish bar, i dont know why, but eventually we found it. Murphys bar. Despite the guiness and murphys posters all over this Irish bar, it didnt serve guinness or murphys or in fact any non peruvian alcoholic beverage for that matter. I have to question its authenticity. We stayed there for a beer and oscar bet me twice at pool. No such thing as two shots in canada and flukes dont count. I think i would have thrashed him had it been for his crazy rules. Went back to the hostel. There is a nice bar there where all travelers mingle. Talked to another few guys there from england, Gaz and chris, who are basically doing the same thing as me in south america. No doubt ill bump into them a few times.

Wednesday the 9th
Got up at 10.30 (I love not working), ate the free bread and Jam had some coffee and set off for Central Lima with Oscar and Ariel (an argentinian from Buenos aires). Visted the old square, presidents palace (where we say the changing of the guards...which bored me to tears), and a few old spannish churches. One church of particular interest was San Francisco which had a convent attached to it and catacombs underneath. Lots of bones everywhere.

Central Lima is a few miles north of where the hostel is. The hostel is in an area called Miraflores which is pretty safe and relatively rich, probably due to its proximity to the Ocean. Central lima itself, further inland, is nice and the monuments and old spannish buildings are well protected with police etc, but it seems to be sorrounded by a much more run down area. To get to central Lima and to get back we took a taxi. Word of the day is Loko, spanish for Crazy, and i am talking about the taxi drivers. My god are the crazy, cutting people off and weaving in between the traffic.

Soup and this plate called Lomos Saltado for less than 2 euro

After walking around central lima we got the taxi back to Miraflores and our hostel, stopping at the bus station on the way. I got a bus ticket for Cusco for 130 soles... 35 euro.. in first class. Journey will take 20 hours or so. Lovely..... So there it is leaving lima tomorrow at 1.15 for the andes and Cusco at an altitude of 4000m. Keep tuned
