Fourth of July! Mark and Kaitlyn both had the day off today and decided to spend the day together just the two of us walking and exploring. Before doing so, we first stopped at a sporting store to look for pedometers. We have been walking so much that we wanted to know just how far and how many steps we take each day. Well, we found the pedometers and after some configuring of conversions in our heads (and on paper), we finally had our pedometers set and ready. On with exploring! Our new friend from St. Louis had suggested we check out the Jesmond area so that's what we decided to do! However, instead of taking the metro like we could have, we decided to walk. The Jesmond and West Jesmond areas are close to where Kaitlyn's school she works at is, and she was excited to show Mark the walking/bike path she takes each day. As we walked up to the West Jesmond metro station, we found a little "hole in the wall" store that sold various kinds of wines. It didn't take much discussion or convincing to decided we both wanted to go in and buy a few bottles. After much discussion with the wine connoisseur, we chose two bottles of red.

The first bottle was Poggio del Sasso. This wine features a ruby red color, fruity aromas, and a soft flavor. Kaitlyn has tried this wine so far and absolutely loves it. It's very, very nice. The second bottle we chose (partly due to the name) was Domaine Des Vielles Caves (Chensas). We haven't tried this wine yet. However, the connoisseur we spoke with said that "on a warm day like today, this wine is fabulous if it is chilled". We both smiled a bit as it was barely 70 degrees outside and this was the hottest day yet. :P

After leaving the wine venue about 45 minutes later, we decided it was time for lunch. We had been recommended a great Italian restaurant from our friend from St. Louis. However, it was such a nice day outside, we decided we just wanted to stay outside. (However, we do plan to try it still while we are here.) We ended up going to this little place called Avanti. It was a fabulous little place that had outdoor seating and a superb happy hour with pizzas and pastas. Mark, of course, ordered his fav of pizza and Kaitlyn had some spaghetti and meatballs. Visitors will definitely be going to this restaurant if they come out to visit!

We had a great Fourth of July. Although, we did not have the fireworks and typical BBQ's, it was nice just walking around and exploring!
