Hey Guys,
I just wanted to send everyone and email and catch you up a little on Fabi & I adventure. So far everything is going really well and as of now we are currently in Milan Italy. The weather is perfect and it is really amazing here. We are really enjoying this trip a lot. Here is a breif summary of what we have been doing:
25th - We woke up early and thanks to mom and dad got to the airport on time and early.... Great feeling being early and not late. Even though we waited in airports all day for many hours the time went by well. After our flight though the night we arived at Dublin and were really excited about starting our first day until we got stopped at imigration. The imigration officer wasnt very polite to us and after he tried to scan fabis passport and it didnt work he accused us of having a fake passport...... 😞 It was a bit uncomfortable waiting in while he left us sitting on a bench while he went to the american embasy there at the airport to do a background check, but we went to
worried since we wernt criminals. But after about 40 mins he came back and said there was something wrong wit the passport and not us..... Then he was nicer.... After that we were on our way.
We travel by bus into Dublin and GPS our hostel...... I really love that little navigating master. Saves us so much time out on the road. Anyways so for the first day all we did was check into the hostel.... Which was really nice... Clean... confortable.. and safe. It was raining the first day so we decided to hang out for a few hours and relax... aka sleep on a couch. Then in the afternoon we got on the Hop on Hop off bus and did our first tour of dublin... I was a little suprised that Dublin really isnt that big and there really want a lot of stuff to see. The coolest thing about dublin was seeing all the little things that are differnt from america and so of the really really funny hair cuts. Half the people look like they were part of an 80's rock band....
So after we explored for a while on the bus and then
off. It eventually stopped raining at 6:00 and got sunny out.... Little did we know that it would stay sunny untill 11:00 pm that night. We went to bed at about 10:00 however didnt get to sleep until late because it felt like sleeping at midday. The first night wasnt to good for Fabi, because we were in a room that sleep 6 people and while i was dead asleep fabi woke to some guy groaning in the bathroom because he didnt shut the door all the way.... Not a pleasant sound when you are sharing a room. Fabi didnt like it at all. i sleep though the whole thing so i sleep ok.
26th -- This day we started out on foot exploring the city and the attractions like: Trinty college, Guiness brewery, a couple castles, the original landing point of the vikings, the history musem, the typicaly tourist streets and etc. (We will update all the pictures later when we can but for now we cant.. sorry) Anyways we had pretty much explored the entire town by noon so we decided to move along and go rent the car instead of just hanging out until the next
day. Next came the most fun i had in all of ireland........Driving on the wrong side of the road...... And it was a stick shift...... and ....... at the busiest time of day in down town dublin..... 😊 let me tell you that that was so scary and fun at the same time. ... Scary because the was no testing my driving skills I just had to try the hardest thing first and fun because i felt like a was driving a go cart.. Except the other go carts like to honk at me for not turning when the light is red..... The car rental company should probably tell you a few changes in the traffic laws before you rent from them. But I was smart an got full insurance so I wasnt as nervous about crashing.... otherwise i might have crashed because i was to nervous. So after we left dublin we decided due to traffic that we would drive staight to the Cliff of Moher that night. Only three hours so we would make it by sundown. However, my little GPS friend let me down a few times and we detoured in the country on some really small
roads. But we made it alive to the most famous spot in all of western ireland.... A small bar in Doolin that i still dont know the name of. That was really cool because it is a really small town of like 50 people max that every tourst and local all meet at the same bar. They were playing live music... true Irish music... and of course drinking Guiness..... thats the spot that i became a little Irish and had my first drink the the (blonde lady in the black skirt) thats a Guiness for all you now irish folk. It was surpissing good and i was shocked that it was sweeter then i thought..
So after just one guiness.... i am not that irish yet.... fabi and i headed for the camp site. One problem was that the campsite, according to my gps, didnt exist. So next best thing Fabi and I sleep in the little Nissin Mica that we had rented. Besides the howling wind that shook the car like a paper bag it wasnt that bad. The next moring we woke up early and heading to the cliffs of moher... Those were really impressive for there
size however it was in the middle of nowwhere and there was nothing else to do after 20 mins. And it was really cold that morning. So we left. Then after driving for a few hours in the irish country side we arived at the coolest castle in all ireland. Rock of Cashel. Really neet place that was really well perserved. However after we drove so much in ireland we were starting to get bored of seeing the same thing over and over. So we decided that we had seen enough of ireland and we headed back to dublin to try and catch a ferry/train to london. Ireland was cool and it was a really neet place to see, but i would only see it once. There really wasnt much differences from one place to another and it is kindof expensive there. In dublin the average meal for one person is about $15 because of difference in euro and its such a tourist spot.
Overall I would rate ireland as a 4 on a scale of ten as to a good place to vist. The funnest thing was driving.... without a doubt the most fun driving ever in my
life. The worst thing was probably the weather. Cold... Raining everyday. And overcast 85% of the day. The food was ok. The culture was funny. (lots of drunken irish people in the morning still drunk from the night before). The history was really cool. Very interest about the uprising and seperation of ireland and the vikings settling there and of course the genius that is the guiness brewery. (9000 year lease for 45 pounds a year sounds like a good deal to me bad for the leasor of course but at the time he made the deal i am sure it sounded pretty good to him). And last of all the cars are all really small. I mean really really small.
Well thats it for now my hour is up at the internet cafe here in Milan. So you guys will have to wait until tomorrow to hear about london..... A really really cool city.. And what we think of Milan so far.
Talk to you later.
