So, all of the preparation is done and all there is to do is wait to board the plane. There is a nine-hour lay over in London, so i guess I'll have to hunt down some fish & chips...and beer! The Kids League, my host organization, has done an amazing job working with the children of Uganda. TKL uses various sports to help the young people deal with the trauma of war. I will be supporting the soccer program, teaching basketball, and taking photographs to document their amazing work. We will work in Kampala and displacement camps up north in Gulu. last fall, an article in the Philadelphia Inquirer written by Carolyn Davis introduced me to TKL. The words and photographs reached inside of me and drew my spirit to that beautiful country; I knew I was supposed to be there. I am nervous, anxious, elated, inquisitive, excited, and ready! I welcome you to follow my journey.

Back to the Motherland
Daddy, you know my palms are sweaty and my knees are shakey...my dad is going to Africa for two months...even though my nerves tend to make me paranoid, I am so happy for you...this is going to be one of those experiences very few get to live out and your words will not be able to describe all of the natural beauty you willl see. I can't wait to see pictures and talk about the people you met...be safe out there with the gorillas (just pretend they are uglier versions of Elando...lol) I LOVE YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Best of luck
If Uganda is half as kind to you as it continues to be to me, you will find it a life experience that will be difficult to match. Please remember to savour every moment!!! To Charlies family and friends...Support him all the way. Speaking from experience, Charlies generousity of heart will have a life long and positive impact on every child he helps in Uganda(beyond anything you can ever comprehend), not to mention his own life... Be with him every step of the way!!
