The Cape - We’re here!

Wednesday, June 25

After a serious 29 hour journey to Cape Town, we finally arrived. Customs wasn’t bad but exchanging cash for Rand seemed to take almost as long as our flight. Greeted by an “Ilios” travel agent, we made our way to the Cape Grace Hotel and were warmly welcomed by Tonya. She made some arrangements for us for our two day stay in Cape town, informed us that our room would be ready by 11AM, and requested we have some tea in the library. After a splendid crumpet, we made our way to Cape Grace room 311 where we were told that we were the first couple to stay in the room since renovated just the prior week. Wonderfully appointed with impeccable detail, we instantly fell into a deep sleep until we were awakened only an hour later to go to lunch at Cavaeu Wine Bar. Quickly changing, the hotel had arranged for their own driver to usher us to the wine bar where we had cheese, meats, wine and cornichons. Of course our day would not be complete without a hike to the top of table mountain. Our guide, Kim, told us that typically her groups needed to rest on their way up, but we made it in just under an hour point five - and runyon doesn’t have anything on this hike. Table mountain views of Cape Point, Camps Bay, Chapmans peak were breathtaking. Arrival at the hotel at around 5PM gave us just a couple hours for yet another nap - we were concked out but managed to stir for dinner at Sevrugo, a new joint that boasted a wonderful menu of fish and sushi, and with the fantastic weather the same day, allowed us to dine while overlooking Waterfront. Our first day was quite spectacular.

Table Mountain
That's awesome that you actually hiked up to the top. Billy and I discussed it but never did the hike. It was too late when we went to start the ascent. However, you did miss an amazing experience watching the sunset from up there. When Billy and I own a place in Cape Town you can come visit and we can go up together =)
