1: Monkey Business (Reid's Video) 31 secs
Close-upClose-upClose-up

Pete took this fantastic close-up of a white-faced monkey.
(written by Crystal) so friday we left for the beach. we stopped several times, including once to see a a group of crocodiles... massive crocodiles who hang out with cows. we all stood over the bridge and leaned over.. i think we made johnny nervous. we finally make it to the beach and we´re all exhausted. well most of us. i made it to bed, some others made it to the disco. our resort was simply amazing, we were nestled up agains the rain forest.. with thatched roofs and separate buildings. it was splendid, we were all estatic we didn´t end up in a typical hotel.

first thing the next morning, after breakfast, johnny loads us back into the van and takes us to the national forest. we trek for thirty minutes, seeing birds, lizards, monkeys, sloths, butterflies, flowers... and all sorts of amazing things. and BAM!! there´s the beach. i think we all took off running for the water. johnny made us come back and put on sun screen. we make it to the water, excited abou the taste of salt water, diving for shells. none of us were really good at it but peter. he kept

The light was just right for this gorgeous view of the Pacific. Reid took this picture.
finding sand dollars, live ones. we floated, we screamed and laughed and played on the beach.. and i fell asleep on a towel.. this is the bad part. my sun screen held up for the most part. my back and shoulders are slightly burnt in a few places, but from the top of my thighs down to my heels... and even the bottom of my feet slight.. i´m red as a lobster. just the back part of my legs.. red.. hurts to walk, hurts to sit, hurts to stand, hurts to move, and the rest of the group was like... ¨well you weren´t kidding were you? like i would kid about sensitivity to the sun...

we shopped for awhile, there were lots of vendors with lots of stuff to sell. and you had to learn to bargain or else you would end up paying too much. at one booth i just looked disinterested and wandered in and out, the guy came down from 14 to 8.. and then had to clear it with his boss before selling it! that technique didn´t always work though. i got some neat stuff, but i can´t tell it all because some are presents.
Close-up CrocClose-up CrocClose-up Croc

Don't worry -- we didn't actually get THIS close to the crocodiles. Pete was on the bridge but zoomed in to get this shot of one of the crocodiles.
i did get a cool dress, so now i can look like a real tourist.

after the beach, we headed back to the hotels so we could shower and do whatever. clean up. i showered and fell asleep. then we went back to the beach, the boys went surfing but the girls shopped again. you can only spend so many hours trying to get salt water out of your hair.

today, we had the option of going back to the beach, but i was already so burnt i didn´t really think i´d be smart on my part.. so i stayed at the hotel and slept all morning. plus for the first time in a week i had air conditioning, so i wasn´t about to let that go. for somebody who can´t sleep.. i do it a lot. i wake up a lot too though. the trip back was long and boring. everyone was halfway or all the way asleep. i know personally that i was doped on dramamine because i had the joy of riding backwards again. we stopped to see the crocodiles again... some farmers were trying to save a cow that got stuck in the mud

Looking forward to our trip
Susan.....After seeing the Manuel Antonio pictures, I am certainly ready to go! We will arrive in San Jose on Monday, June 30th. We did not have any definite plans other than to sight-see and spend some time with Reid, but now we are thinking that we are just going to have to schedule a side-trip to one of the beaches! I looked up the place where your family will be staying and wow! it looks fabulous. Looking forward to hearing about your own trip to Costa Rica! We will definitely have to compare notes when we all get back home! Have Fun!!!!!
