Hola,

Good evening, we have just got back from a great dinner of rice potatoes and beans, the first non ugali dinner we’ve had at the rescue centre!

We have been very busy since we last wrote to you. On Wednesday we met with the other charity who are helping in Endonyo Narasha for the second time and discussed the option of the wind pump with some of the bosses who were down from Nairobi. We then took a cramped, crowded, bumpy, head banging, miserable matatu to Nairobi to try and meet with Mike Harries who makes the wind pumps. He very kindly invited us to stay at his house for the night in Thika and see the workshop where these pumps are made. We had a really interesting and enjoyable time and stayed until Friday. It was a welcome return to homely comforts and a quick trip in his “bush” plane made it an exciting, educational and unexpected mini break.

We met with the very accommodating Indepth drilling company and arranged for the drilling of the borehole in Sakutiek to start on Wednesday or Thursday.

On Friday we met with the other Endonyo Narasha charity’s country manager and submitted a formal proposal to share the cost of a wind pump, giving them a more sustainable and attainable option as opposed to the cheaper petrol pump.

We had the weekend off and enjoyed ourselves in Nairobi. As a result of visiting a casino on Friday night we enjoyed some very tasty and complementary fish cakes, but more importantly two Canadian men shared some of their winnings with Dig Deep. Personally we left evens but Dig Deep was a winner walking out with 6000 Ksh more than it walked in with.

Saturday was a rather quiet day. The highlight being a tasty Italian dinner followed swiftly by a taxi ride all over Nairobi trying to get to a cinema. We finally rocked up at the smartest shopping mall either of us had ever seen where we finally found the cinema. The film was odd.

Sunday we spoilt ourselves and visited the David Sheldrick trust to see some baby elephants and a couple of rhino’s and the Nairobi giraffe centre to feed and kiss the world’s tallest mammal.

Our return journey to Narok was a aboard a pleasant, comfortable, lovely and efficient matatu.

Back to business today, Monday. We are in the process of arranging a meeting with the elders and councilors of Endonyo Narasha to discuss our position and what they feel would most benefit the community. We also visited our friends at the water board again and spoke with the other charity, but it sounds like it might be a while until we hear their final decision on which pump will be used.

Until then, we hope you are all well and happy!!
