On the outskirts of town we headed via dirt road to the Nasca desert. Archeologists have uncover numerous preserved mummies from the 2,500 year old Nasca society. Walking among the paths you arrive at several covered areas that contain the mummies. The mummies have had their skin, bone, hair, and clothes preserved. It is weird to think that this is not a hollywood movie set but actual mummies sitting out in the desert. There are adult mummies and child mummies preserved by the arid Nasca desert weather. The best reserved is protected behind class and all the hair, skin, and clothes are still visible.

Moving away from the desert and back to the town of Nasca, I headed toward the airport where I took a flight over the well known Nasca Lines. The Nasca lines date back to the ancient Nasca people. Archeologists have many theories on why the lines where created but nobody knows for sure. You board your little Cessna airplane and the pilot flies you out to the desert where the lines and glyphs are located. The pilot banks and turns the plane on both side so everybody can see the lines and take pictures. The famous glyphs of the Nasca Lines are the Monkey, Hummingbird, Spider, and dog. Flying of the lines in giant circles makes you wonder why the Nasca people built the lines so only you could see them from above. The motion of the plane making circles made my stomach upset. All I could think was take the picture, don´t throw up, take the picture, don´t throw up, oh god just take the picture. I managed not to lose my breakfast but I still enjoyed the plane ride over the Nasca Lines.

Tonight I am heading out to Arequipa, Peru via a night bus. Tomorrow I will be in Arequipa and ready for my next adventures but this time in the Andes Mountains.
