After the adventurous arrival in Luang Prabang by Lao airlines flying in from Hanoi, Vietnam, it seemed a likely possibility for a while that I was going to have to sleep under a bridge somewhere.....
For anyone traveling the vietnam - Laos route;

STOCK UP ON KIP BEFORE HAND!

Apparently they don't want low currencies like the Dong, so seeing that I arrived in L.P. with just Dong, I was in a bit of a bad situation there. One of my fellow passengers on Lao airlines lent me a few dollars so I could have a baquette.
After a bit of asking around and searching I luckily found a travel agency that wanted to exchange my money for a reasonable rate.

I was so happy to be back in L.P. though, the mix of French colonial architecture, the beautiful temples that are just about everywhere around town and the food make it such a wonderful South East Asian destination.
And that shows, since the last time I visited the town has grown quite a bit, guesthouses are almost as plentiful as residences it seems like, but thanks to the care of the Laotian government and the Unesco heritage status of the town, everything is done in such a fashion, that none of the expansion is making L.P. look like another Ko pha Nang or equivalent.
I love the place! Unfortunately, the rain stopped me from doing anything, but I didn't mind really, with my budget running low anyway.
Did walk up Phu Si again, with that amazing view of the rivers joining around the peninsula, the airport, and all that beautiful GREEN.
It is sooo green!!!

Actually the best activity when in L.P. is to just walk the circumference of the town, watching the monks doing their daily chores, drying their robes in the sun, sitting by the riverside, watching the Mekong flow past, the locals tending their vegetable patches on the banks.
And it's just so quiet as well. The number of Tuk Tuk's have grown, but there are not enough to disrupt the peace of the town yet.
And the 23:30 curfew is still in place, making a night's sleep in L.P one of your most relaxing on your trip.

After just 3 days in L.P. I had to move on, with the end of my holiday in sight, so booked myself the bus to Luang Nam Tha, in the north of Lao. From there it would be just a short hop to the border with China.
