So it's been a busy couple of days since Amanda and Rebecca arrived, with some interesting medical cases.

Yesterday we were out at Mungule again, and we had a pretty solid turnout for the clinic. We even enrolled a new child for CTC. I spent a lot of the time teaching Amanda and Rebecca about Peds stuff, mostly how to do exams, including a few tricks that I've found useful here for keeping the kids from screaming excessively (white people tend to scare children). There was one very interesting case, though. A young boy came in with opsoclonus, which is a very unusual symptom that involves seemingly random, fast movements of the eyes, and several months of a cough without any evidence or contacts with TB. Because of the opsoclonus, I think he might have neuroblastoma, and with the cough I think it might be in the chest. Regardless, the short list of things that could cause these symptoms are all pretty bad, so I sent him into UTH for evaluation. I'll be checking on him tomorrow to see how he's doing.

Today, we were at Chikumbi, and it was a little quieter-- at first. Our last patient had an almost deafening heart murmur that could be heard all over his chest, and it seemed that his heart was enlarged. I suspected a congenital heart defect, and I had HIM go to UTH as well. At the end of the day, as we were waiting for our transport to arrive, we saw another puff adder (that deadly snake that I took a picture of last time). This time, though, since I already had pictures of the other one, I did the honors of bludgeoning this one to death with a stick. Amanda took pictures of the action. I'll see if I can get them up here.

That's all for now! Hope people's weeks are coming along well.

OK, that's enough fun
Stay away from the puff adders, or we will likely have wasted the money we spent educating you, you young fool! Go play with the lions or something. Love Dad
