My last port day has arrived.
Today we were in Grand Turk. A small island, not a lot there. But still very nice. I'd never expected to come back here again, after having been here last year while on the Legend. But, there I was.
Jody and I went on a snorkel / beach tour. We went to Governor's Beach, part of a park, really close to the ship. The water in Grand Turk is extremely salty but it makes the water stunning blue and the sand very white. The beach was lined with - I couldn't get over it - ever-green trees! I didn't know pine trees existed on tropical islands! They didn't look like our "Christmas trees" back home, closer to a willow almost, but the branches were all covered with long, soft needles. Crazy new discovery.
First we went out snorkelling. Had a good swim. Played with taking photos of each other.
The spot we were at wasn't the best snorkel site in terms of things to see. But by this point, I've done so many snorkel tours, it's difficult for anything new to compete. However, there were still quite a few fish and
some coral. Saw a few sea urchins. What was incredible though, was the visibility. It was astounding. So clear . . . unlike anything I've seen elsewhere. The diving in Grand Turk really must be amazing. I could see a dive boat beyond us, just before the water drops off. According to our driver, just offshore, where you can see the water change to a darker colour, the water suddenly drops to death of 7000 feet! Mind boggling!
After our nice swim and snorkel, we laid out on our beach chairs under the soft shade of the pine trees. Sipped some cold beer. Looked at the ocean. Enjoyed each other's company and conversation. Appreciated how lucky we were to be there.
It was such a good day out there. The water was lovely. The beach was lovely. The sunshine was lovely. My company was lovely. I'm sad it's my last port day. But it couldn't have been better.
