The world's most handsome jaguar
I headed back the zoo after being away from it for less than 12 hours. Perhaps not the best planning…. I headed right over to the jaguar exhibit to see if the one I knew was on exhibit. He wasn’t, and so I hovered around for a while looking rather sketchy, until I managed to get the attention of a keeper. He was incredibly nice, and let me come back into the holding area to visit the cat! I hung around for a quite a while. He didn’t pay me any attention at all, but it was such a different setting I could hardly expect him to know me.

I then spent hours and hours wandering around the zoo, seeing, I believe, absolutely everything. The zoo takes the open exhibit plan to an extreme, it was very different from what I’m used to! When the put the orang-utans to bed at night (their exhibit is a set of trees in the center of the zoo with electric wire running around near the ground), they are brought to the ground and four at a time walk along the public path with a keeper. Definitely a different attitude about safety and disease transmission than what I’m used to.

All the same, it is really beautiful there and people seem to love visiting a zoo where they see no bars. I don’t think the animals know the difference, but since they are exhibited in such a beautiful and natural setting, hopefully this will inspire people to care about their wild counterparts.
