I spent my final day in Hong Kong riding the Gondola up to Ngong Ping to see the giant Tian Tin Buddha. The gondola ride was pretty spectacular, and the Buddha was certainly enormous! Back in Kowloon, got a great taste of the little chunk of the Indian subcontinent that is Chungking Mansions. This is where are the budget accommodations and food mess’s are, I had some excellent Indian curry, and ran into two Caribbean ladies who I’d sat next to on the train earlier that day!

Before I headed out on this adventure, I stopped by Statue Square; on Sundays, Central Hong Kong is filled with amahs (nannies from various southeast Asian countries) on their days off. They fill in all sorts of open spaces, including the steps to the subway and beneath overpasses. They spread out cardboard boxes and spend the day their, chatting, reading, giving each other pedicures. It was the most remarkable display of women being women, wherever they can squeeze in, I've ever seen!

All in all, I really enjoyed experiencing Hong Kong! It was definitely a mistake leaving my high heels at home, women in this city and fancy all the time!
