Hong Kong Island at night. They put on a light show every night at 8, through the buildings lighting systems. Pretty cool but not very environmental I suppose....
Yesterday I spent my first day in Hong Kong, so I really just walked around and tried to get as much of the sights and sounds in as possible. I went over to Mongkok which is the typical shopping area in HK....at least thats what I've been told and that what I saw. The streets, shops and restaurants are bustling around the clock and at night there is an area that turns into the famous night market. All and all pretty cool, but the selection of stores is pretty 'cookie-cutter'. So the order of the shops goes like this: electronic store, hair salon, drug store and then repeat, I kid you not. I felt like I was walking through a Flintstone cartoon where the backround gets rehashed every couple of seconds. Mind you there was the random arcade and clothing store but for the most part you really need to know trhe area to find what you were looking for.

Today I decided to something quite touristy and go to Ocean Park, which is a theme park and aquarium all rolled into one. So I spent some of my childhood growing up in cities where that had amazing

theme parks and aquariums. Ocean Park wasn't up to the challenge I'm afriad, but lets be fair, its all located in one area on Hong Kong Island. It is amazing to see an attraction like this on one of thee most expensive pieces of land in Asia, if not the world. The rides were pretty funny....a bit of tease for a kid who grew up on Magic Mountain. They get your heart racing just in time for the ride to end....still good fun. There was this Indian kid who I think felt the same way, cause he rode the coaster before me, with me and tried to stay a third time in a row, but was quickly caught. The aquarium aspect was decent though. They had a huge salt water tank that housed pretty much every aquatic creature that was local to South East Asia, and it was pretty crowded in that tank but I don't think the wildlife really minded. It was split up into three levels: surface, coral reigon and sub-coral? So you could walk down through the different reigons and see how everyone got along. There was this big bastard of a fish that hung around the

walls of the tank and he had little fish that would swim in and out of his gills and his mouth. Most of the time he seemed pretty happy that he was getting the attention, but sometimes he got pissed and the little fish knew to scatter away. The final part of the day I spent watching the Dolphin and Seal show. It was put on well, awesome tricks and such. The backround music/commentary was really cheesy though. I think at one point a little girls voice says: "in my dreams at night I hear the Dolphins say ' I love you' ".....GAG !!!!! After my Ocean Park afternoon, I walked around Central district which was on the Island. Pretty cool, still lots of life at night...even went into a Toys'R'Us. Apparently Rubix cubes are making a comeback out here....so much so that I saw somene get busted for stealing. The store was pretty cool about it, just kicked them out and thieves went away smilling and apologizing. This getting a little lengthy so I'll end it now. Bye !!

Its funny when he's got to go back into the water. In quite a gracefull manner, he wiggles his whole body and flaps his flappers until he gets back. (I know they're fins...lets see who gets the joke)

Kinda crappy to be tearing down the beautiful forest to make way for another sub-par ride. I'd rather have the forest.....
