Braving the grey... GUATEMALA
Somehow, she has been calling since childhood, when I first visited in 1973, still in cloth diapers, where my parents decided to travel different ways...
Guatemala has been beckoning since I was one.
Perhaps, by returning, I can be One, again...
Since the beginning of this voyage, there has been a sense of awakening, of dreams not yet dreamt becoming real, of finding myself while shedding bits of a past being, a being carrying energetic loads of karma that were unknowingly gathered and treasured as my own.
With every day, the
Wow! is even stronger, the importance of the now, more present!
It is funny that every time I set foot in Latin America, I feel instantly charged and revitalised!
My body starts to be awake... I need very little sleep, just love the food, lose weight in a positive way, automatically!
It's almost as if I were...
...home?
Which is daring for me to say, given my natural, perennial, home-less-ness!
Ten wonderful days in California with family and friends
Colour!
Camouflage Splash, Native Woman has definitely given me a buoyant spirit to land in hurricane-land, still, my feeling of beginning a new voyage of discovery is ever-present!
It has now been 11 months since I last slept in my own home... my own bed, that no longer exists!
A Summer spent around Switzerland, Italy, France, Spain and England, followed by the long-awaited departure around the world in November.
Imagine... I had said as a child that I would go around the World at 35!
Madagascar, South Africa, India, Thailand, Cambodia, Singapore, Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, California, now Guatemala, with the rest of Central and South America at my feet!
The feelings of awe and expectation are my faithful, smiling companions, as well as a stoic Alberto who gets to be surprised by this unfolding planet on a daily basis... He is coping and discovering new possibilities within himself!
To be told by mother Earth that it is time to stop, find things to do indoors or brave the elements is interesting, a challenge and fun in a tiny town on the banks of a specially energetic spot...
Lake Atitlán!
Lamp Light
Native Girl Alma and Arthur, a hurricane on each side, make Guatemala a wet and windy place!
At the risk of surfing it up too much, here, too, were we treated with the utmost couch-generosity, instead of with lodging, with pleasant company, a guide and the introduction into the social, literary, artistic side of Guatemala City and Antigua.
A delightful, Bohemian weekend with laughter, culture and word wrangling!
Gracias Sonia!
Naturally, also here, do I have family, my Aunt Linda and Uncle Al living on a sailboat, singing and dancing into never-retirement!
Now that I only have one flight left on my ticket...
from Salvador de Bahia, Brasil, in November,
my thoughts are,
first, how to get there in such a short time, overland and,
second , how to extend this trip...
... indefinitely?
Smiles for Miles!
