Tikal
Awe... Voices from the past...
I wrote my mother after the last entry, asking where she and my father had parted ways...
... it was in a small town on lake Atitlán called Panajachel, near the river...
I know that this borders on the ridiculous...
I wrote that blog from Panajachel!
Either my subconscious knew this and pushed me this way, or, it was just serendipity, or simple coincidence, quien sabe?
The funny thing is that, I had no intention at all of going to Pana. My plan (in as much as I plan...) was to go down to Rio Dulce, then either go to Tikal or down to Honduras, etc...
It was only when two people insisted that it was a place worth visiting plus the fact that it was raining in Rio Dulce that made me decide to go there at all!
That would explain that feeling of healing energy and excitement that had me awake at night wondering about life, the universe and averything!
After that recharge and the unceasing rain, I was ready for Rio Dulce and whatever other magical experiences were to come my way!
Linda
and Al were the most wonderful hosts, making us imediately a part of the Mario's Marina community of avid boaters and sailors, who kept asking us if we were going to become part of the ship crowd...
...tempting, all that freedom and those places that you can only see from the sea... all those islands!
It was very refreshing to see the enthusiasm of all the boaters, regardless of age.
Some even jumping off the warm waterfall that we visited as a group!
Age truly is in the heart!
After an all too short visit, the beautiful island of Flores and the ancient Mayan temples of Tikal beckonned, as well as the trip through the only English speaking country in Latin America, Belize, where they don't drive on the left side of the road!
Tikal at sunrise in the mist, not much to see, all other senses heightened to the awakening rainforest jungle, mystic in the morning!
Mind filled with images and illusions of ancient times, what were they thinking?
After a marathon bus ride through the air-conditioned night, we made it to the Mexican town of Merida, Yucatan.
After taking care of
Spirits?
Have you seen the light? business (sorting out plane tickets), feeling strong enough to continue and aided by the perfect timing of the local buses, we made a run for
Chichen Itzá
wonderful, spectacular and full!
Similar in structure to Tikal, only much more modern, accessible, commercial.
In a synchronistic manner, again, we managed to just catch the bus to Cancun!
Cancun, hotel-ly spectacular and superficial...
Isla Mujeres, tiny, full of golf-carts for rent, the island of women is beautiful, regenerating and drives people crazy, at the rate of one a month!
This is the idea of Caribbean paradise, an ex-pirate haven, now luring tourists to its turquoise water and white sandy beaches...
Of course, Tulum, the most spectacular joining of Illusions, Mayan Temples and beaches you could envision...
Life is a beach!
