First of all, to answer the lovely Sydney's questions ---ps i love that you comment! other readers: write comments!

The Sunlitun'r Youth Hostel is on Chun Xiu Lu, which is one of the streets perpendicular to Gongti that we'd walk by without noticing on the way from Dongsi station toward the Worker's Stadium. Except I'm on the north side of the road. Actually, you know what? This miiiiight be the street with all the big clubs that we never went to like BabyFace and... and I'm blanking out on the rest.

The shopping complex they're putting up right now out my back door is the Yongli place, and they're really just starting it. I would have no idea what it looks like because, as we know, they put up like 50ft high walls around all construction sites along the street. Yongli will be on the corners of Gongti and Chunxiulu. I believe it's large enough that it's taken out the Bus Bar - the sketchmaster of all bars!

Also, Nanjie and the others back in that complex are gone!

Next down the line on Gongti are The Olive and perhaps our Thai place??

The shopping mall on the corner of Sunlitun'r and Gongti is up! And it is strange looking like clear orange panes all the way up. I don't really know how to describe it. I'll take photos this week and post them. Also, I think Yaoshou got a massive facelift -- big and shiny and next to the new home of Adidas!

Okay so right now there are two foreigners in here, Americans, a guy and girl. The guy is weird and speaks foreigner Chinese, but he's confident enough. The poor receptionist was trying to speak English while he was speaking foreigner Chinese and the result was a lot of confusion. And it's Sunday so this girl working reception is the only on here; the rest have the day off.

It looks like a beautiful day! Blue skies and big puffy clouds. I've decided that today I'm going up to Wudaokou to have a look around the old haunt and to visit my favorite Muslim restaurant. Won't be the same without Will and Shasha 😞 But Houhai and Tiananmen will be crazy, as it's Sunday and all of Beijing will be out and about enjoying the good weather.

Also: From these hostel computers, I cannot access Xanga, LiveJournal, or my bank account. I am able to access this blog , Yahoo Mail, and Gmail. Today, though, I will take my laptop and use wireless and see if I get different results.

And yes, Syd, I've been on the Bookworm listserv since I left in April '07, too! Although it took away a small piece of my soul to read them and not be able to attend the events, I couldn't bring myself to ask them to delete me either!

Yay, I can comment!
So I'm at T minus roughly 72 hrs and counting. It's just started to hit me that I'm going. I think it's because everything is being taken care of for the group. We don't actually have to do anything ourselves, which, yes, is nice, but I'd really like to make plans myself so that I can appreciate it more...not complaining though. Also, I don't think I've told you. I got a paper proposal accepted to the International Society for Travel Writing conference of the South Atlantic Modern Language Association. The panel is called "Race and Mobility in Southern Travel Writing" I proposed a paper about interracial couples in Charleston, SC, and they accepted! Which I totally wasn't expecting, and now don't actually have the paper, still just the proposal. Also the convention is in November, and hopefully I'll be in Abu Dhabi that time. But either way, it's good news. Peace out!
