Beijing is HUGE! trying to negotiate our way round was fun to begin with as our map isn't very good but got some help from a very friendly chinese man who wanted to practice his english. I had been told about the abruptness of the chinese "where are you from? what do you do? what are you doing here?" but we took it as the friendliness it was intended to be.
Found our way to tiananmen square which is immense and walked around the forbidden city (we are going to visit it on tuesday) to Jingshan Park which has the most amazing views all over beijing and is beautiful. it would have been a lovely spot to watch the sunset but unfortunately the haze of smog prevents you from seeing it.
The weather has been lovely as there is a bit of a breeze so I can cope, the factor 50 helps. I had been feeling very proud of myself as Hong Kong was crazy hot but I managed without too much whinging. I was gutted to get back to the hotel finding I had prickly heat on my legs, looks really attractive!
Apparently we're getting up at 5am tomorrow to watch hundreds of chinese practicing tai chi in the grounds of the temple of heaven while the sun rises but we'll see
