FantaseaFantaseaFantasea

Here we are holding Diamond outside the show, cutest thing ive ever seen
So the last few days in Phuket were spent round the pool, bit more surfing and eating. The weather had really turned around by the end with sun shining and the beach packed with people. Keri had a dress made we have called 'The Sack' not happy with it. We had heard about this attraction called Fantasea from a few people so decided to check it out and it turned out to be one the the coolest things we did! Its a Los Vegas style show with 30 elephants, pyrotechics, music dancing dudes flying all over the theatre. Was all inside a pretty amazing theme park all based on this mythical world with tigers, snakes, resturants and bars. Checked out of Serene on the 20th and flew up to Bangkok and caught a taxi into the chaos of Koh San road. Backpacker central, markets, tuk tuks, thai dudes trying every trick to get us to buy this, go with them there. Got off the streets checked into hotel with rain pouring outside and had a pretty rank sleep with clubs banging all around. The next day was spent sight seeing, national museum and museum of forensic science. Temple of Dawn and Wat Pho temple. All very cool and busy. The forensic science museum was pretty crazy with dead murders, babies etc all preserved and a massive section on the tsunami which was an eye opener to the huge loss of life and impact the disaster had to the country. The night train was taken north to Chiang Mai and 16hrs were spent on board. Loooong trip but once we got to the famous Chiang Mai all was forgotten and 1st impressions were of a beautiful city within a city with mountains surrounding it, friendly and chilled atmosphere, well more so than Bangkok. Bit more market shopping and tuk tuking to temples and briefing on our 3 day hill tribe trek leaving tomorrow. This is something every visitor to Thailand should do. Elephant riding, bamboo rafting, sleeping in bamboo huts in primo little hill tribe villages with really good food and song and dance by the local children. The heat was intense but the waterfalls along the way were beautiful and getting out of the city and tourist packed streets to see some traditional villages and mountain views was more than worth it! We flew back to Bangkok splashed out on the Sofitel for last couple nights. Relaxing by the pool, checking out huge malls, cruzing on the sky train and south east asias largest aquarium before we had to face the music and catch that long plane ride home. Spent the day back in Waiuku with family, nice to see everyone again before plane south today. So now back to 5.C Queenstown from 35.C Thailand to start new job as a Lord of the Rings tour guide. Mountains opening next weekend so time to wax the board and get winter gears out again, next blog have some snow in it once again!! Happy winter, Dan
