My first impression of Roma...

It's dirty, the people are freaky, and, for the love of everything dear in the world, there are no ATM's to be found ANYWHERE! I know it's horrible of me, but after my first hour in Rome I was on the verge of tears and ready to leave. I'm so blessed to be here, and I know I have absolutely no right to complain....but I'm going to anyway.

First off, I should say it's not all Rome's fault. My train from Bern left at like 7:30 am, and I had a few hours to play in Milan before getting back on a train to arrive in Rome at 5:30 pm. Well, that plan was good in theory. Milan's train station didn't have an ATM, and I didn't have any Euro's with me, so I couldn't put my bag in the lockers, but the staion was under construction so I coudn't even find the lockers. I asked a few times, and people kept pointing me in different directions, so I just parked it and found some lunch (wierd bread that was kind of like pizza, and this famous candy here- Happy Hippos). By the time I got to Roma and found my hostel I was SO!!!! tired, and my stupid back pack, another thing only good in theory, weighs more than I do. Then I had to search for an ATM and couldn't find one to save my life. There is very little you can do when you have no money. You most definately can't check into your hotel room.

Long story short, I had to walk back to the train station and wait FOREVER to use the 1 atm the Rome Termini has. Then I got some dinner, and spared no expense, lol. It wasn't that bad, but I got Lasagna and it was the best thing I have ever had! And I got Strawberry's and Gelato for desert. And I had a super cold coke 😊. It made things a little better, lol. I will still thinking "Five day's? I'm staying in this place for 5 days? NO!!!"

However, after a good nights sleep, my attitude has changed a bit. I walked all over Rome yesterday and got to tour the Vatican with some friends of mine! I missed the Pope, but that's okay. I'm not Catholic anyway. But the tour was great! I really enjoyed it. I got to go to the sistine chapel and see the infamous man touching God fresco. It was really spectacular. And on my way to Vatican City I got lost and found this little park with a beautiful view of Rome!

So, all in all, Rome is growing on me. I've got to go now, though, because I have a walking tour of practically every place in Rome! lol

More later.

Ciao!

Buon Giorno!!!!
Hey Girlie-Girl! Such is life while traveling abroad. The "hiccups" can seem overwhelming when you're in the moment. Glad to hear things are shaping up. As for dirty and a bit freaky, I would have to agree. I was there in mid-August back in the early 80s, and it was oppressively hot, a bit stinky, and WAY TOO MANY PEOPLE!!! However, a visit to the Vatican and Sistine Chapel really seemed to help smooth the rough edges so to speak. Go with the flow kiddo and soak it all in. Hope you were able to hook up with Mayonnaise!!! ;) Love ya! Karen

Rome
I'm so glad you're there but sorry you didn't bump into "the Man." THere will be no more bummer days in Rome. That's behind you. I am hoping you have a CIAO t-shirt from myoffice and wear it proudly (with a cute skirt of course). I am enjoying your stories. I am concerned though that your rear end is being pinched? I've heard that about those dirty Italians? While you're there, keep your eyes/ears open for Lanzetta's and Giamencerri's - those are my peeps! Just curious. I love you every day. Miss Lesley
