Today’s priority was to find a replacement camera after the on/off button jammed permanently off late yesterday and absolutely refused to come back on whilst we were in Victoria on Vancouver Island. As fate would have it, only 50m away from our motel was a Staples store (like OfficeWorks) and within minutes the manager sold us an updated model of the one we had, less 25% and to boot, it accepted our existing batteries and 1 gig memory card (saving more money). We drove just up the road to the Capilano Dam and walked out onto the wall and experienced the force of a 50m burst of continuous chilling green water falling below us into the canyon of the Caplilano River. All this water descended from Grouse Mountain that is the main snow covered backdrop to Vancouver. We then drove into town to Canada Place where the cruise ships berth and dropped our bags off and then onto Thrifty to drop the car off (we found both these places two days earlier so today would be a breeze). No trouble boarding the ship and we were on our way after a short back-up tour in port to buy two bottles of wine (don’t get this wrong, we had hardly had a drink so far !!). It was misty and damp today in Vancouver unlike the previous two warm days (we found out later on, that Vancouver’s weather is often like this rather than the sunny days we were lucky enough to have). The Island Princess is big - 90,000 tons & 965 feet long and we settled in and soon met our dinner table friends who are all Americans. No internet access is available for the time being. After tea we went to the floor show, singers and dancers followed by a comedian.
