From Brisbane we bussed it to Byron Bay and instanly loved the place! The weather was gorgeous, the place was full of surfers and the beach was glorious. We spent a day lounging on the beach, trying to top up what's left of our tans (and it's not a lot...boo). We also had a surfing lesson in apparently "perfect conditions" on a lovely beach just North of Byron. It was brilliant, we had a 3 hour lesson and by the end we were standing up on pretty much every wave. Although we got battered by the huge waves that popped up every now and then.

From Byron, we rented a car for the day and drove to a very bizarre little place called Nimbin. It's well known for the hippies and the weird shops, as well as its very liberal approach to cannabis. We got offered a lot of 'cookies'! We also drove to the lighthouse at Cape Byron. From the top we watched dolphins surfing in the waves, as well as the local surfers. They were much better than us!

We headed for Sydney on the overnight Greyhound, which took 13 hours. On our first day, we wandered around the Opera house and the Comtemporary Art Museum....Rich wasn't impressed with the 'art' at all! We explored Bondi Beach and again, the weather was beautiful. In summer the beach can have as many as 40,000 people on! Thankfully, there were only about 100 when we went. We watched the surfers here and we were thinking about doing another surfing lesson, but after seeing the enormous waves and skilled surfers getting pummelled, we changed our minds!

We went on a tour of the Hunter Valley wine region for a day. It was us, 2 old couples and a group of Chinese people! It was really fun though as we got to try lots of really nice expensive wine that we would never even consider buying. We also went to a cheese tasting, which was very tasty, of course we couldn't afford any of the cheeses though! Thankfully, the Chinese group spent hundreds of dollars on wine, so it went unnoticed that we didn't purchase any. We did buy some spicey chili sauce though!

On our last day in Australia we went to the Australian museum because there was a dinosaur exhibition that Rich wanted to see...such a kid! It was suprisingly good though. We took the ferry to Manly Beach, mainly for the amazing views of Sydney harbour, the Opera house and the bridge. The sun was setting and the views were spectacular. We didn't think much of Manly Beach, so got the ferry back after about 1/2 an hour there! Bondi Beach wins hands down.

Next stop New Zealand and a campervan named Queenie....

The word museum isn't really fair. Cannabis appreciation centre would probably be more appropriate!
