All i can say is wow. We left for Iguazu Falls on May 2. It is only an hour and a half flight from B.A. I had high expectations of one of natures most amazing destinations, but i was blown away. The waterfall system consists of 275 falls along 2.7 kilometres of the Iguazu River all accesible by metal walking paths or small trains. You can get up to just mere inches away from the water. Some of the individual falls are up to 82 metres in height, though the majority are about 64 metres. The Garganta del Diablo (Devil's Throat in English; Garganta do Diabo in Portuguese), a U-shaped 150-metre-wide and 700-metre-long cliff, is the most impressive of all, and marks the border between Argentina and Brazil. Two thirds of the falls are within Argentine territory. About 900 metres of the 2.7-kilometre length does not have water flowing over it. We learned that the edge of the basalt cap recedes only 3 mm per year. The water of the lower Iguazu collects in a canyon that drains into the Rio Parana in Argentina. It is quite a tourist destination right in the middle of the rain forest. Aside from the local hotels(only eight) there is really no close civilization. We splurged and stayed at the only hotel actually sitting inside the national park, only a three minute walk from the falls. Our view from our room was miles and miles of the most beautiful rain forest. The scenery here is amazing, while listening to the roar of the falls. Poor Niagara, this place takes the title. Along with more impressive falls, and unbeatable scenery , you can not compare the views and how close to the falls you actually get. At one point a person can stand and be surrounded by 260 degrees of waterfalls. The Garganta do Diabo has water pouring into it from three sides. One viewing deck hits you with the force of the falls and it is hard to stand without getting pushed over, and impossible to not get soaked. There are many attractions here, boat trecks as well as walking trecks taking in the wildlife of the area. One we had to try was the rapid boat which takes you under the falls. It was unbelievable. Anyway we were only here for two of the most spectacular days, i will let the pictures speak for themselves.
