Pensacola
TT Wentworth museum We had no destination when we set out today along the 1-10 W from Tallahassee. That was, of course, until we discovered that there really isn't a whole lot to see or do along that stretch of highway (unless you're looking for a nice campground, in which case there are many). After stopping for breakfast at The Waffle House, we decided to keep driving the 199 miles to Pensacola, making this the last long day of driving for the rest of our trip.
We made one stop in a small town called Milton, where we wandered around an antique mall called the Copper Possum. I almost became the proud owner of a really cool looking vintage green hair dryer (marked down 20% from $17.50), but decided against it at the last minute. It was quite heavy and really not something I needed, but part of me wishes I'd gotten it anyway. Oh well...
We arrived in Pensacola at about 2:30pm and headed straight to the Knight's Inn, a cheap ($38) motel we came across in one of those motel coupon booklets. After settling in (and changing rooms after the first one we'd been given failed to get an internet
Milton, Florida
River located next to the Copper Possum antique mall signal), we headed downtown to the historical section of the city.
Pensacola has quite an interesting history. First settled in 1559 (America's first settlement), the city has flown five different flags, including Spanish, French, British, the Confederate States, and the United States. We wandered around the historical part of the city and took a few pictures before heading back toward our motel in search of dinner.
We found a Mexican restaurant, El Ranchero's, located just down the street from our motel. Not only was it cheap ($19 for two meals, a margarita and a beer), but it was also the best food I've had this whole trip so far. I got a vegetarian plate that included a guacamole taco, cheese quesadilla, rice and beans, and everything was delicious! After dinner we decided to wander around the Univerity Mall that is next to our motel. What a sad place... every other store has been shut down, and there was practically no one inside. There was also a movie theatre there that shows new films for $1.75 (unfortunately it was closed or we probably would have watched one). We walked through the entire place in about 5 minutes.
It
was still early so we went across the street to the Pensacola University Sports Bar and Grill to play video games and kill some time. Tomorrow we are going to the National Museum of Naval Aviation, located at the Pensacola Naval Air Station (and home of the Blue Angels!), and then we are off to Mobile, Alabama!

Antique Store
Wow, you actually got Chris into an antique store? Wish I could have been there.... I don't remember going to any antique stores when we were on our trip in 1983. Pensacola looks like an interesting city. Dinner looked good. Now we are hungry, but it is time for bed...
