Bath

On Friday night Dale and I caught the train to Bath only 1 and half hours away. What a lovely town so enriched with history and a peaceful relaxing atmosphere We stayed in a bed and breakfast and our room was huge with two double beds and a huge bath room. On the first day we wondered around Bath and enjoyed spending time in the town it was so old with so much history. Yet it had everything you needed in it like all the popular shops and starbucks! I saw the Jane Austen Centre but decided not to go inside. We went on a tour of the Roman Baths and I was so amazed to see the land had raised 15 feet in 200 years. The old remains of the Roman Baths were interesting, I couldn’t believe that they had built such a big structure and even included under floor heating in the steam room although it was so hot they had to wear wooden shoes. The Romans who built the Bath had also built a drain system to drain out all the water that was coming in from the springs. The stone tank still surrounds the Spring, although the roof fell down sometime in the 6th-9th centuries. The water still goes either to the Great Bath or through the Roman drain to the river Avon. So the Roman plumbing is still working!" It was nice to look up over the great Bath and see the Abbey in the back ground.

After visiting the Roman Baths we went to the thermal spa for a swim and to relax, I was a bit disappointed that the water wasn’t warmer. But I enjoyed the steam room and the foot spas. I was so stoaked to later find my favourite wine Stoneleigh from New Zealand in the Bath liquor shop. It’s the first time I’ve seen it since I have been here. Bath had been fun but unfortunately on Saturday night I got a sore throat and now sick in bed with tonsillitis. I’ll have to save the wine for another time.
